There's always 2 sides to a music discussion: those that like the music and those that don't. I just don't get why the latter has to always shite on the former instead of letting them enjoy what they like and discuss it with others. Everyone has different tastes.

they haven't happened yet. And you don't have access to their private contracts. But you're really hung up on this. This is just you wanting to be the "insider" with all of the "expert" knowledge.
Similar sized venues are booking these shows. That's all I need to know. They aren't running charities either.

Ask anyone that works at the varsity how often they see the owners besides gamedays. Once maybe twice a year. Compare that to their restaurants.
The ownership of the varsity has not changed over the years, but there have been ups and downs as far as the acts that are booked. This is a result of who the talent buyer is at the time. An owner that cared about which bands were booked would not have allowed the molly ringwalds, chee weez, etc to fill up half the calendar for each month as long as they did.
If the owners cared, they would make the investment to expand the upstairs and increase capacity which would help the talent buyer compete. An extra 200 people at a soldout $20 show id an extra 4k for a band. It

Precisely. Which is why I'm arguing that the Varsity should book more than just 90s survivors. I'm not saying it's a bad thing they booked the Deftones. I'm saying they could book other shows as well. TheDoc is arguing that they can't.

Doesn't the Varsity book a lot of varied things already, though? I guess they might not book the stuff you want, but that happens a lot. I'm very fortunate that I will have seen 3 of my favorite bands in the Deftones, Chevelle, and 10 Years but there are plenty of other artists that I like that don't get booked.

Which ignores I also used a 600 person venue. And your argument was that the bands were too small to play the 800 person Varsity yet they're playing a 1400 person venue. So these same too small bands are too big to play Baton Rouge because it's such a podunk burgh.
It's such a duplicitous argument. But have fun jacking up ticket prices $15 over the tour average like you were bragging, because that's what's best for Baton Rouge music fans... Paying more for the same show.

Doc you are correct. Varsity will have trouble competing with hob cuz they can book a band at each of their cities. Varsity needs to expand their size to compete with tips in nola and to make sure they never lose another band to the Texas Club (ex. Govt mule years back)
They could also work with some of the other sec college town venues and book the bands the night before they olay in oxford.

i'm not going to get into this, because you are clueless about talent buying, but bands have guarantee's... an 800 person venue compared to a 1000 person venue, the ticket prices will adjust accordingly.

survivors of 90's? there's has been like 3 bands from 90's in the past 3 years Look at that October list, they've pretty much touched based on every genre. How can you whine this hard when you don't like this ONE band. I don't like Deftones, never got into them, but anyone who has followed the Varsity's bookings since AB took over cannot complain about not meeting their musical tastes.
