I bet you can get a 10% discount if you buy all 4 together. They might even throw in some straps, strings and picks.

I like that 2 of them are in someone's cart

They're beautiful guitars. Hope they play like a million bucks.

How about the fact they charge you several hundred for shipping. Maybe Amazon Prime has spoiled me, but if I'm spending a million on something, I want free shipping.

I guess I’m a simple man with simple tastes, but I prefer the look of a black guard Telecaster or a honey burst Les Paul over those pieces.

Might be an interesting Fretshak or other luthier question, but outside of the economic "what someone will pay" argument, what could you conceive of putting into an instrument to command such a price? Not judging, just legitimately curious.

If the average person (not player, I said person) can't figure out why a guitar commands an insanely high asking price, then it is very, very likely ridiculously overpriced, like those four pieces that started this thread. I want a round of whatever that guy is ingesting.
In the case of seven-figure guitars, even truly historic and rare instruments fall short of iconic artist associations. I don't have to explain or justify asking prices associated with Kurt Cobain's acoustic, David Gilmour's Strat, Jerry Garcia's Wolf, or one day, Jimmy Page's "number one" '59 Les Paul Standard. That's the one that will one day set the all-time high water mark for price paid for an electric guitar IMHO. It's a half million dollar guitar easily BEFORE you associate it as being the favored, most photographed and most recorded guitar of one of the most influential guitarists in history WITH one of the most influential bands in history.
For acoustics, Willie Nelson's "Trigger" will be the high water mark. If it doesn't end up in the Smithsonian (where it belongs). Again, zero explanation or justification needed.

That's the odd thing. All four of those guitars have something on them from the infamous "The Tree" mahogany tree. But in articles I've read, no one can say for certain that wood from that tree makes a guitar actually sound better. It may sound different than other mahogany guitars, but not a better sound overall, and that it is more about the look because the gain pattern is really different.

Have to admit, I think every one of them is beautiful and I love beautiful guitars, as long as they also sound and play great. A beauty that isn't a player, is just pretty junk.
A million bucks is insane, even if they're fantastic.
IMO, there isn't a guitar out there that can be worth more than 10 grand, based on it's own merits, without some kind of historical significance.

It's a great story, really, but deciding if its worth the price of admission is truly a case by case basis thing.
Smithsonian piece on "The Tree"
For what it's worth, there's no shortage of reasonably priced old-growth mahogany for luthiery if you are smart about sourcing it. For starters, old solid mahogany headboards and tabletops from estate sales (cheaper than antique shops) that can be cut up and repurposed. Old pianos and old church pews can also be a reclamation boon depending on the species, mahogany or otherwise.

A friend of mine has a stack of old mahogany the size of a small house. All different sizes and grains.
We've been meaning to sort through it, but he's been having
health problems.
He's been building and restoring mahogany boats for over 50 years, and is almost finished with his final one.
I'm looking forward to seeing what we find in that pile.

I have too many guitars anyway.

Me too. I've got to really start trying to move some of them.

As far as I know, these still belong to the guy who built them.

Diminishing returns off the chart here.
