• Takes place in Raccoon City during the events of the ‘Resident Evil 2’ game

• Filmed to be from POV of a normal guy including - first-person shooter action + wide lens shots over his shoulder

• Many easter eggs for the games including weapon progression & creature mechanics

I liked Barbarian but did not like Weapons, so I'm keeping my expectations in check.

Also, so far the trailer looks like "Resident Evil" in name only, so I guess we'll see what easter eggs they include and how noticeable it is that it's taking place during the events of RE2.

I guess I'm in the minority, but I'd love a faithful adaptation of at least some of the games.

Looks more grounded than the Milla Jovovich movies. I only played through part of the first game, so I have no idea if her movies were close to the source material.

Looks like we get a cameo from Baron Vladimir Harkonnen

its a side plot in the same universe.

Right, but I'm curious to see how connected it is to the universe. Like, are Leon, Claire, Ada, or even Marvin making an appearance?

I (and I assume a lot of other RE fans) love the video game characters, so how are they going to make me care about a random NPC running around the city as part of a side plot? That's rhetorical, but that's why I'm tempering my expectations.

It looks like it could be a good horror movie, but will it be a good RE movie?

The first scene in the house and the spider looking creature coming out of the barn made me think it was going to be based on RE7, the rest of the trailer was completely different though. We didnt get 1000 jump cuts though so its definitely trending in the right direction.

Giving some Silent Hill vibes, nevertheless, I'm in.

They were not lol

As a horror movie, and based on Cregger's past work, I think this looks fantastic. A really fun time with some cool shots already (the various limbs coming out of the dark doorway was awesome).

But yeah, if you showed this to me without the title card, I'd have no idea this was a RE movie. Could've at least thrown in a random Raccoon City sign.

It would be pretty cool if there were scenes from the games playing out in the background of the movie

I thought the very 1st RE was close to the game. I did not play the game much bc it was only on Playstation at the time.

This looks great as a movie and not knowing the game might be a plus

This article sheds a bit more light on the film.
"Resident Evil: How Weapons Director Zach Cregger is Putting His Spin on Survival Horror’s Most Iconic Series" LINK

"
quote:

“I’m going to live in the world of the Raccoon City games,” explains Cregger. “But it’s an alternate storyline that takes place on the periphery of the hero’s storyline, so it’s a story that could be happening without necessarily breaking the universe of the story the games are telling.”

I believe I read elsewhere that the main game characters would not be making an appearance. So this is like a side story of a survivor within the lore of the Raccon City outbreak. He is avid fan of the game series though and his previous two films were well made and enjoyable enough that I'll give him the benefit of the doubt. I hated the Paul W.S, Anderson films. I couldnt even enjoy them as campy schlock even though the games themselves are often campy schlock... I knew .there was a formula there to make those games compelling and entertaining on film that imo Anderson didnt have the ability to find. I think Creggars just might. Lets hope
