Pickpocket
Delicatessen
Belle de Jour
Live Flesh
Cyrano de Bergerac
The Leopard
Tears of the Black Tiger

i would have hated to be in this movie, or any of Bresson's. i think it was an actor in this movie who later said Bresson made them do scenes so many times that they felt like brainwashed robots. had a interesting effect on the performances though.

This is tough. In very rough and ill-considered order:

Fanny and Alexander
Rules of the Game
Smiles of a Summer Night
Stalker
La Dolce Vita
Nights of Cabiria
Marriage of Maria Braun
World on a Wire
Virgin Spring / Seventh Seal / Wild Strawberries
Aguirre
In the Mood for Love
Rashomon
Grand Illusion
My Night at Maud's
Jules and Jim
Solaris
The Vanishing
Sword of Doom
Hidden Fortress

I think I need to see Mirror again. Sorry for getting carried away. I'm sure I forgot some.

As good as many of these films are...

I still don't see any film better than Throne of Blood.

1. Throne of Blood - Greatest film ever made, hands down It is the prefect blend of of what cinema is meant to me while at the same time calling back to its roots on the stage. Amazing Performances, Great Cinematography and the best of all classical storytelling pieces. And don't forget, awesome stunts with real arrows.

Big fan of all 4 of these. Seems like I need to watch the first on your list. Putting it on my list.

Its one of those films that instantly pop into my head when I think of a perfect film. Aside from being too squeamish for intense violence or too stupid to read, I don't see how anyone can't enjoy this masterpiece. May be in my top 5 films of all time.

And if Miyazaki counts (due to the fact that most people these days watch the dubs), then yeah put his whole film library in there as well.
