"Nothing in Common" from 1986. Jackie Gleason and Tom Hanks.

"You're the last person I ever thought would come through for me".

Go to 2:26 in the Trailer for a piece of the scene, which of course loses a lot out of context of the entire movie.

“Favorite” probably isn’t the best word for it, but one of the most gut wrenching and real scenes I’ve ever seen watched.

Here's one for gut-wrenching but not father/son, but father/daughter.

Sean Penn in "Mystic River" when he is trying to find out if the body the cops found is his oldest daughter who's car was found abandoned on the street with blood around it.

My wife was with me when we watched that movie for the first time and she was flat out bawling during that scene.

Kinda surprised nobody has mentioned Jack Lemmon and Burgess Meredith from Grumpy Old Men yet as a great representation of the older father/son relationship.

I always thought the father/son relationship in "There Will Be Blood" was top notch.
