Little River Band Air Supply?

I’m kinda new to the genre but I think that technically the standards seem kinda strict.

just watched it, it’s wonderful and absolutely hysterical in a great way. There’s a combination of sincere reverence for the music (which really is incredible) and humor about the social relevance of the whole scene

really well done

However, do yourself a favor and watch the 13 episode history of yacht rock on YouTube.

:that was awesome:

As many times I have YouTubed yacht rock and all I got was vinyl vibes. I think they should have a live station.

The originators had strict guidelines but it’s outgrown them, and every streaming music channel and podcast has their own standards.

Christopher Cross is incredible. I’ve been a fan since childhood. It wasn’t until I got into guitar that I realized Eric Johnson played on his 1979 eponymous album. Of course Michael McDonald and Don Henley were also on it.

Pocaro’s and other guys that formed Toto

I had no clue that these guys were the session musicians for Thriller and one of the Pocaro’s wrote PYT.

Edit - Human Nature, not PYT.

There's a cool Lukather anecdote about those sessions. He wrote the "Beat It" riff and QJ wanted to bring in EVH for the solo.

Luke admitted to really going hard to impress/keep pace with Ed. QJ pulled him aside and said, "Luke, I got to get this song on pop radio. I need you to dial the metal down a bit."

(paraphrased from memory)

SD and Toto constantly employed the top musicians in LA… perfect playing.

Was just in a wiki hole on Lukather. Damn, he was incredibly prolific and wide ranging.

One of the Pocaros in the doc estimated Lukather's credits at around 4-5K albums.

I have a buddy that plays Mr. Howell (on base guitar) in a band called Gilligan's Island, the Band.

They play a nice "Right Down the Line".

"Gilligan" plays drums and his wife is "Mrs. Howell" on keyboards.
They are also The Two... the looks and sounds of the 60’s, 70’s, 80’s, 90’s and more, featuring songs by THE MONKEES, AMERICA, DEVO, and WEEZER .

Crazy fun stuff.

On a related note. I just watched Rick Beato interview Jeff Baxter. Interesting and intelligent man, but it made me remember how much I despised Michael McDonald and how he ruined The Doobie Brothers.

Jeff Baxter brought McDonald to the Doobie Brothers.

Yes

He commented that the album "Living on the Fault Line" was one of the Doobie's best albums.

It's their worst.

Really enjoyed that. Really could have done without the dumbass woke idiot that chimed in about the song "Africa" not being able to be written and played today. They have to insert their stupidity into everything that is good.

I am one of those people that felt like Mike McD ruined Steely Dan, but I did enjoy a lot of his work outside of that. After last night, I changed my mind. All of those guys were just amazing song writers and musicians.
