Ok well here is one I thought of:

You sure this would work? Why exactly would they feel something for torturing that specific person since most of them probably thought he was just some crazy guy anyway? I'm not saying it couldn't work, but I'm not sure how it would work considering that.

Maybe not all of them. Maybe one is struggling with it. Maybe he was the one that actually nailed him to the cross and is dealing with an internal struggle. His comrades that took part in it see it as another day on the job but he did his job but is now questioning his faith and what might become of him if that truly was the son of god
