A nerdy cubicle dweller plays in a still-performing 1980s punk band, unknown to his coworkers.

(Based VERY loosely on Mission of Burma)

Now I can't remember the team that DC United did this to. Good call.

Hmmm...might have to look that up. The goal is to take a look at the role of soccer in this country.

I love this. One of my short stories in college was essentially this, except the guy was a full blown drug addict. I kind of got the idea from the fact that the Beatles were a much better band once they were obviously on drugs all the time.

It's probably more believable and relatable your way, though. It'd definitely connect well with the audience.

Great thread!

About the Katrina issue...in 2007 I wrote the intro of a story about an alien invasion coming in on a rock-shaped ship and dropping down these tesla coil orbs. It was set in the future, and the world was so populated that they had these massive retractable walls put in place around big cities to fight viral outbreaks by quarantining the citizens until a cure could be found.

So the walls went up when the tesla orb came down. And the story follows those people and how they survive and eventually get help from the outside.

I was going to put real events from Katrina in it. Like thugs in the Superdome, and sad, brave, and heart warming stories.

It's Katrina, just in the future. Like the Apartheid and District 9.

Here's log lines for stuff that I have worked on or am working on:

- A rough-edged research team sets out to find dinosaur bones admist warring indian tribes, small skirmishes between soldiers and indians, and other research teams, and with the newly published Origin if Species they question their role in it all. (hitorical fiction western about the Bone Wars and creation/evolution at that time)

- A planetary geologist on the ISS gets commissioned to study a red mass that has appeared around December, 2012 while he now must certainly coe to grips with his biggest fear: death. (Scifi allegory about death/cancer)

- An epidemic kills everyone except 2 girls and Guy, all the women come back to life as zombies. (Dark comedy about how shitty women are)

First thought in my head was Fun Bobby from Friends.

And are these for books or movies? I think I have one but would probably work for a book

Either. I don't know about others, but I'm treating this as a resource to help those who are writing or planning to write stories. You know, like a writing group. Get advice, encouragement for an idea your on the fence about, things like that.
