Worst US versions of UK shows?

i just stumbled upon the US pilot for Peep Show and am physically ill
Peep Show is possibly the funniest show in television history and this is utter, hopeless trash. the entire reason it's funny is the inner monologues of Jes and Mark, because of who they are (interesting guys who are either frustrated at life or overly optimistic, in a rotation of acknowledging and ignoring why they're either). this show seems to just take the characters and make them some sort of EXTREME (weird). it's like they missed the entire point
in my youth, my former favorite show (Red Dwarf) also had a terrible American remake. it just didn't really have material or characters to translate to the US markets (a Douglas Adams-esque existential look at the universe in space only needs so many versions)

i couldn't stomach the US pilot of 'the office'. they copied the UK gag-for-gag on the pilot and i had been a fan for a few years and said 'this shite is cringeworthy'.
how wrong i was.
how wrong i was.

Watched a few minutes, that was unbelievably bad. This comment was worth the pain though:

Watching that clip makes me think Big Bang Theory creators saw that and decided to make it anyway with a different name

I agree with this. I've probably watched the series 4 times. I tell everyone about the show, but no one makes it passed the first episode.

I remember them trying to do a fawlty towers with harvey korman in the late 70's. It totally missed the nuanced writing style. It didn't last long. I almost want to say frick you for causing me to remember it. lol.

I think I watched the first 3 seasons and loved it. At some point I got distracted and never finished it and it became one of many shows that I’m stuck half way or 3/4th the way thru bc I don’t want to take the time to rewatch and I don’t want to hop in without rewatching

There was an American attempt to copy Dad's Army in 1976, called The Rear Guard, that never made it past the pilot. I've seen clips of the American version, and it was pretty bad. It was a rip-off of the Dad's Army episode "The Deadly Attachment." That's the one that had this famous scene:

I'm a huge Seinfeld fan, but I hate the first season. I do not hate the first season of Peep Show.

In the 90's, CBS tried an American version of Absolutely Fabulous with Mary McDonnell. It didn't last.

UK The IT Crowd was hilarious, watched it numerous times over.
US The IT Crowd pilot was complete trash and didn't have what made the UK version so great.
