I grew up watching those shows in the rural south and didn’t have a racist bone in my body. People were people and your color didn’t matter.

Yup...which is why our generation (I'm 52) really does feel lost by what's happened, because we really were the first that had been born after all of that, with no attachments to any of it, and by simply living together we all just got along. To now see our kid's generation throw all of that away as if our time simply did not happen is maddening.

I'll throw in Chapelle's Show wouldn't be considered woke, despite a good chunk of the skits being a racial commentary.

Good one. I'd say definitely left leaning and without question leans heavily on racial commentary (heavy handed at times if you ask me but still absolutely hilarious) but not what anyone today would consider woke.

Similarly, the original A League of Their Own had a nearly all-female cast and a female director, and did just fine across every demographic, and that was 30 years ago.

Same thing. No one saw it as some crazy feminist female empowerment movie. It was just a comedy based on a historical fact that centered around female ball players. I don't recall trailers focusing on "The SHEroes the country needed!" or anything so asinine.

The day Wes Anderson goes woke is when I’m done watching movies.

Same generation, I can't remember anyone ever giving a crap about someone's race growing up. These younger generations seem to be hyper-obsessed with it. Everything in their lives gets filtered through the prism of race. It's not healthy and must be exhausting.

That is considered a racist ideal to the woke. To them, your race/gender identity is the MOST important thing about you.

It hasn't really affecting my viewing for the most part. It has affected my enjoyment of this board though.

It's kind of crazy how little it mattered.

I was thinking about two brothers I played ball with in high school the other day. Ramon and Carlos. Couple of Irish fellas...

But seriously, great guys and good ball players. I recognized they were "Hispanic" but other than that I never once thought about it. So much so I still, to this day despite still seeing them form time to time on Facebook (I know it sucks but it's good for that once you've gotten old) have no idea which flavor of Hispanic they are. Puerto Rican? Cuban? I never gave enough of a shite to ask, and they never felt the need to broadcast it.

What made me think of it is exactly what you said. It would be nearly impossible for them today to not be made to talk about that nonstop and because of that everyone would be forced to see them through that lens first and foremost. It's insanity.

The best part in all of this are the people calling everyone racists in here are the white guilt nerds who probably never interacted with a black person in their entire lives.

They live in their safe space and anytime something goes wrong they run to their safe word. You’re racist.

My response frick you.

I'm about 20 years younger than y'all. I grew up the same way, but I remember when it all changed. It was 2008. When Obama was elected, I noticed a major shift in social dynamics away from no one giving AF about skin color to it being the biggest and most important thing for identity. My public school had so many race-based acts of violence following the election that a serious permanent police presence was necessary.

It was just so strange. Prior to the election, the white and black kids all hung out together. It was no big deal at all. Yet, after the election, it was like they had to self-segregate out of pride. It made no sense to me.

I have a pretty low tolerance threshold for it. I guess that is why I don't watch much of anything that has come out in the last ten years or so. It has to be really, really fricking entertaining for me to sit there and put up with shite that has been put in there to obviously push an agenda.

At least one thing I can control is what I want/don't want to watch. There is plenty of good stuff from the 1950's through the 1990's that is better to watch. Same with movies.

Does the mandatory "wokeness" or whatever you want to call it ruin the experience,

Yes. Because it's unnecessary pandering, and a creation of the left. Everything the left touches turns to shite.

From my perspective, it completely ruins alot of these movies to the point I have no interest in watching

You're not the only one. Blatant pandering equals to failures. It's why Amazon turned off the comments to woke of the rings for 72 hours. People don't like that shite and it's easy to spot.

This. The white guilt liberals in here are calling everyone racists. They never interacted with a black person before but love telling them how they are supposed to feel and what to do. You can’t make this up anymore.
