Supposed to be a shite ton of sex and nudity in this show

As much as I loathe McKay personally, that asshat SOB knows how to make great films and content.
The Big Short is still maybe the best movie of the last 6 years and this looks like it will be the best series released this year.

Wonder if they have the balls to show Magic being queer

Looks like it could be good, but I'd be lying if I said I wasn't hoping for a "Last Dance" style documentary when I opened this thread.

First episode out now. Watching now
It’s fun soley for the 70s footage and set pieces but the narration/4th wall breaking to rapid fire exposition to you is tough.
Very unclear line between satire and sincerity so far

Halfway through the first episode
I’m into it
Some good casting throughout.
Looks like a new Sunday HBO show for me

The casting is pretty solid. Jerry West going from angry AF to super angry AF all the time is hilarious. And the guy playing Larry Bird

I will be watching this every Sunday night for the next 9 weeks. Great nostalgia and telling the backstory of the Showtime LA Lakers. I always heard that Dr. Buss was a crazy dude.

Great to hear good reviews.
Will check it out tonight.
Watched my weekly billions episode last night instead, but wish I would have remembered this

He gets a little too into himself and his style sometimes (The dick Chaney movie)
Still remains to be seen if this will get a bit more grounded. Felt kind of disjointed to show the HIV piece as a cold open to the show and then never once even come close to that level of drama again for the rest of the episode.
And one of his signatures is breaking the fourth wall to simplify a complex topic to the audience in an entertaining way, and in that first episode he did that in almost every scene and couldn’t go longer than like 2 minutes before using it again, which is strange because the stuff he’s explaining is completely unnecessary, like I don’t really need to be told explicitly that basketball was different in the 70s and how it can be fun to watch with more superstars or explicitly state every characters thoughts and motivations upon introduction.
The style and nostalgia factor is pulling most of the weight so far. They need to scale back the Deadpool narration like 5 notches. Some scenes felt like the actors were reading off of the Wikipedia entry
Some incredible performances in there though, like Jason Clarke (crushes everything), and maybe that’ll be enough but I can see this being closer to Ballers than the elite HBO programming I think they want it to be

Magic being diagnosed with HIV essentially brought an end to Showtime. The Lakers had just made the finals vs the Michael Jordan led bulls earlier in the year.

I thought the same thing.. and the driver was crying and sobbing hysterically meanwhile Magic isn’t showing much emotion at all… was the driver, his lover or just a driver? Seemed like too much of a reaction just from a driver to the news

I hope not.

I kinda like it. I remember that day vividly and it is part of the tragedy. So leading off with it is a nice move.
John C Reilly is a national treasure.
I think I'm going to love this.

was this the show he was pissed about or someone with the Lakers was angry about what they might show?
