How did the original Captain Marvel make so much money? This one will tank.

Any MCU title was cleaning up after Infinity War, and before Endgame.

Brilliant planning by Feige. It was sandwiched between IW and Endgame, so everyone felt they needed to watch it

Yeah, they really shoe-horned it in. It felt so forced, even sticking her in Endgame. Everything else up until that felt fairly well planned out, so it really stuck out.

Sure they do. They’ve always come out with trailers for MCU movies at least this far out.

ETA: first GOTG3 trailer released in December (for a SUMMER movie).

Disney+ season dedicated to showing Captain America returning the stones

I’ve been saying this since after Endgame.

I wanna see a show with Cap going through all the major world events post WW-2…

Vietnam, Korea, JFK assassination, Civil Rights Movement, End of the Cold War, 9/11, etc.

When else would they market movies that come out in 1-3 months? What a silly statement.

It might, but the MCU is successful enough to take risks like this to broaden its appeal.

Like I’ve said before, box office success is no longer the indicator of a project’s success that it once was. Streaming has changed everything.

There was always going to be hangover after Endgame. It was such a fantastic buildup and an almost perfect ending. It really lost momentum with the girl power scene but it was short and in the middle of the climax fortunately. They really should have taken a break and planned things out more. Once you move away from the more mainstream story lines you had a tall task to face. The cosmic stuff isn't something the average fan was very familiar with. Then you throw in the political climate where, even if unintended, you can have people calling something woke. It stumbled out the gates just like DC not doing Darkseid.

Who would've thought that Deadpool would be MCU's possible savior? I'm sure that'll be brought up in Deadpool 3.

Agree with this. They could have done a series of movies dealing with the main Avengers going off to do their own thing, while Fury scrambles to find a new group of Avengers to defend earth. There are plenty of bad guys out there they could have used. That way Thor can go do Thor 3, the Guardians do GotG 3, Strange/Multiverse, etc, while they are putting together a new team.

the biggest issue is that there is no avangers movie set up in this phase and it’s looking like there may not be one next phase. the movies that make the billions are the ones that bring a lot of characters together.

non of these movies did totally surprising numbers

Spider-man was a huge hit
DS2 for a Doctor Strange Movie was an enormous success
Thor 3 was the 3rd highest grossing thor movie.
GOTG3 did slightly worst than GOTG2 but still made over 800 million
Antman didn’t go well but it was never a franchise that was making a billion dollars.
BP2 did well for a movie whose star died. 859 million is a good take.

but they’re spending waaay to much time stalling. they needed to have a tent pole ensemble movie and they haven’t had anything close to that since Spider-Man and I dont see one till maybe FF.

Because they can't figure out how to tentpole their new characters. Strange and Ant-Man were never going to get it done. Spider-Man had a chance, but if Holland is slowing his acting down that's out.

I think they want to replace Evans/RDJ/Hemsworth with something more diverse - but they can't figure it out. (And yes, ScarJo was solid and Sam Jackson helped, but it wasn't enough). And they won't take that risk yet and are trying to spend time building up a "more diverse" Avengers to launch, hence the stalling.
