Will Modern Family be the best sitcom no one remembers?

It’s a funny show, started out like fire, and never really fell that far off it’s best ratings.
That said, pop culture always seemed to rank it behind peers like Big Bang Theory, & it’s biggest syndaction deal so far is on USA Network.
Also I could see the PC police turning on this show in the near future, with whiny complaining about stereotypes of homosexual couples and Hispanics.
Will history be kinder to Modern Family than pop culture was?

Yes it is and everything I said comparing it to Modern Family is still correct.

I love Modern Family. The first 4 seasons are absolute gold and it remained hilarious well into season 8.

Newsradio. That show still holds up but is long gone in pop culture annals. It was as good as any sitcom
in the 90’s

I miss that show. Would love to find a station that shows reruns.

Did you just confuse "Rules of Engagement" and "Terms of Endearment"?

It became absolutely unwatchable in the end as did Big Bang Theory.

It featured a bumbling, dumb white male as the central figure so PC police will likely leave it alone.

It started out as a "refreshing" look at the new American family, with a gay couple, a mixed race inter-generational couple, and a "normal" nuclear family. But when it came down to race, they still had their "we're so white" episodes where they stumbled through interactions with black people and other races.
Right now it's not in danger, but neither was 30 Rock a couple of years ago, and now they're pulling "problematic" episodes from their streaming services and from syndication. So this (and most shows) will be in danger in the coming years.

I've seen this argument before: In a sitcom the comedic roles go to the male comedic actor instead of a female one, this is sexist and starves female comedic actors of opportunity.
However, this is a catch-22, because if they ever showed a sitcom family where the male characters played it straight while the female ones acted like dumb buffoons - it would most assuredly come under fire for being all out sexist.
That's probably why the Dunphy family had 3 kids. As soon as they decided there was going to be a ditzy daughter they HAD to have another female sibling who is completely opposite. They couldn't do a Married With Children setup with just Luke/Haley.

Even though it didn't last as long, you can throw Better Off Ted on that list as well.

It actually mocked that stereotype.
Phil was a brilliant hardworking man who loved his family and would do anything for them.

I know what you meant. Puddy was fantastic in that show.
Yes, he will always be Puddy to me.

Loved this show, and I was devastated when Hartman was murdered. The problem is I don't think it ever caught on with audiences. Maybe I am misremembering, but I though it performed poorly in ratings.

I haven't watched that many sitcoms since the Seinfeld era, although Modern Family is probably my favorite of the past decade. I still haven't finished the past couple of seasons but the early seasons were great.
