Still can't get over how terrible the animation looks. Looks like a mid-2000s direct to cable budget film in some scenes.

they’re all chasing the Spiderverse movies.

I don’t love the trend towards less clean more sketch animation styles

it’s like watching impressionism evolve

Yep. Apparently, there is a scene where Magnifico explains that if everyone in the country got everything they wished for, it would result in chaos.

The rotten tomato score has fallen to 46%. Wow, this film must really suck arse for critics to pound it that hard. They usually cover for Disney.

It also only got $2.3 million in early previews yesterday.

It may be a long weekend for the mouse house.

Saw a review on YouTube from a guy who usually likes Disney animated flicks who basically said it was more of a masturbatory “look how great Disney has been” than an actual story.

Disney Animation’s princess movie Wish from Frozen franchise director Chris Buck and Fawn Veerasunthorn is leading with an $8.7M Wednesday (including $2.3M in previews) at 3,900 sites which will translate to a $24M-$27M 3-day and $40M-$45M 5-day. Rotten Tomatoes audience score at 84% trumps critics score which is 46%. Wish cost between $175M-$200M before P&A.

The story doesn’t sound half bad. People are hating on the animation, which is probably justified as this is the 100 year anniversary of Disney. They really should’ve raise the bar but oh well.

To be fair to them, they did try. They gambled on a new animation style, just not sure it's gonna be a winner.

melt a little harder about the 45th Disney movie to come out about dreams and wishes being unrealistic.

You don’t see the difference in a general “I will work until the thing I want happens” and literally “you’re a villain for not magically giving EVERYONE exactly that they tell you they want!”

Come on. Don’t let woke contrarianism completely melt your brain bro.

I’m seeing it with the family tomorrow. I’d never heard of it until seeing the preview before Trolls last week.

Just from the preview I saw, It looked a lot like Moana to me.

The princess looks like a slightly older Moana, and the pet sheep or whatever that is has the same mannerisms as Pua, Moana’s pig.

I’m a huge Moana fan.

Ii looks like Wish is having even more trouble. Todays update from the Hollywood Reporter:

Box Office Surprise: ‘Napoleon’ in Close Battle With ‘Wish’ as ‘Hunger Games’ Prequel Eyes Overall Win

quote:

Ridley Scott’s new historical epic Napoloen, starring Joaquin Phoenix in the titular role, is turning into the surprise victor of the Thanksgiving box office. The film, which opened Wednesday across North America, is on course to earn as much as $36.5 million to $37.5 million for the five-day holiday corridor, putting it in an unexpectedly close race with Disney Animation’s Wish.

quote:

Tracking had Wish, an original story with no affiliated IP, topping the Thanksgiving chart with a five-day feast of $45 million to $50 million, but those predictions appear to have been too bullish. Disney has suffered a rocky year at the box office, capped by recent bust The Marvels, and could have used an unqualified win.

quote:

With Wish struggling, Lionsgate’s Hunger Games prequel is now expected to top the five-day Thanksgiving chart (Wednesday-Sunday) with $40 million to $42 million in a win for Liongate’s attempt to launch a new spinoff franchise.
