Well, this is Hollywood after all.

For a good synopsis of Braveheart's historical inaccuracies... History Buffs on Youtube

Because Mel Gibson was playing the main, but less important historically, main character.

I don't think he's weak. He realizes listening to his father was a mistake, and takes charge of the army at the end.
That's how it's played in the movie, but if we think politically, it was probably more accurate to think of his father's allegiance to the English being outweighed by the unenviable position of being caught in the middle of a Scottish uprising. He waited to see which side would have the upper hand before ditching his old alliance. He knows that the English will eventually return, and he, being nobility will be forgiven for the sin of changing alliance to save his own arse when he switches back to their side.

The entire movie is riddled with historical inaccuracies. Actually there’s too many to name, the Bruce being a pussy has never bothered me because I hated the actor anyways.
There is so little historical merit to the film it shouldn't even be regarded as historical fiction. Not sure what Mel's fascination is with seeing himself being tortured on film. I'm sure if he could cast himself as Joan of Arc he would have by now.

Robert Bruce was a better military leader than William Wallace. Wallace wins one battle and he's suddenly up there with the greats of history, yet Bruce beat the English multiple times.

Actually now would be the perfect time for this. Mel could completely redeem himself with liberals by being the face of the tranny movement

Robert The Bruce did become a great warrior, starting with a very small force and barely surviving early encounters to emerge victorious.
Of course, I'm pretty sure he murdered a rival to the throne in a church, so his rep is not without blemishes.

Because he initially knew that English would win till they could wage guireilla warfare

All I know is that scene when Wallace gets drawn and quartered makes me hurt down there. I’d have Had one of my boys Epstein me if I thought I had that coming.

I have never, ever watched that scene. I've heard that scene coming from another room. I've watched most/all of the rest of the film.
Never that scene. Not even once.

Very same for me
But I don’t watch 12 replays (or even 1) of gruesome football injuries either.

That scene isn’t very graphic. They don’t actually show his entrails or anything.

Very little is actually known of Wallace outside of the fact he was a Scottish rebel who led a very shocking upset victory over the English in that one battle of Sterling Bridge and that he was eventually caught, tortured, and killed.

quote:Meh. Both share importance
but less important historically, main character.
Wallace got the charge to independence rolling. Robbie won the independence
Wallace was, say pre-declaration John Adams with a hard on for fighting the brits.
Robert was George Washington.
