Too much CGI

My SO had never seen them and she asked the same question. She's a Harry Potter fan so I gave her an analogy.
It's like the original seven books were great by themselves but then the author decided she didn't like the ambiguity in certain places. So she wrote a book about Harry's parents who invented magic through alien technologies granted to the Illuminati right before ww1. Then it turns out that Harry's parents didn't really like each other all that much and didn't sacrifice themselves to save him but instead got into a fight and fell down some stairs and then Valdamor claimed he killed them.
Not only is it a shitty prequel, it kinda makes the original work shitty by proxy.
I likes this. Great way to put it.

Man I hate how every Jedi cannot beat a Sith without another Jedi with them. Kenobi was a Jedi Master and they portrayed him like he never held a lightsaber most of the time.

There are many reasons why the prequels are terrible. They are really bad films.
There are NUMEROUS inconsistencies with the OT that just make zero sense.
But I always sum it up in one scene:
In AotC, Padme falls off of a CGI landing craft, that was filled with CGI characters. She lands in a CGI landscape in a CGI area and interacts with a goddamn CGI Clonetrooper in a scene that adds nothing.
He could have shot it in the desert. And put a real person in the outfits, and used real sets and pieces and vehicles. It was all just so damn ridiculous.

3 is one of my favorites. I always wanted to see that last act and I finally got it. It was amazing.

Yes, but the reason why that scene ultimately fails is because of the build up.
"You were my friend and I loved you!"
Except we weren't really friends, and I didn't really love you, because the previous two and a half movies make that abundantly clear.
Episode 1 should not have existed. Anakin and Obi Wan should have been long into their relationship when we met them. The betrayal and fall should have been gradual and over the course of 3 films. Those emotions should have been earned and they weren't.

Obi-Wan has zero character development in Episode I. He goes to Naboo, then sits on a ship the entire time they are on Tatooine. He does get to play an important role at the end of the film with the lightsaber battle. But by that point, it's like "oh yeah, there is the other guy here with Qui-Gon that's gonna fight as well."

I like the poor job they did filming the elderly Christopher Lee as a lightsaber master.

Or that every jedi/force user has to also be a swordsmen.
Yoda is the worst.

Phantom Menace: a) Jar Jar Binks; b) young Anakin - if you get rid of the comic relief/slapstick that is Jar Jar and made young Anakin older and a little more serious, it would have been a fine movie
Attack of the Clones: It was just a jumbled mess. Obviously, got the message on Jar Jar as his role was greatly reduced. Also, stalker Anakin was creepy as shite and Padme's switch from creeped out to on his Johnson made no damned sense.
Revenge of the Sith: dialogue...God it sucked. Seriously, with a lot of the same plotlines, but just dialogue better than what a Ritalined out 6th grader would compose and it would have been a much better movie.

So? That doesn't tell me anything about his character. I learn nothing about him from what you've said. The fact that Qui Gon is his master is entirely irrelevant even in Episode II. They bring him up like once, and that's really it.

I think Lucas tried to cram as many characters in the prequels as possible. The original trilogy had one main bad guy through the whole thing (Vader). In my opinion they should have carried Darth Maul through the entire series of the prequels instead of introducing other Sith characters.

Yeah, E1 is terrible. I gt the hate with that one, but E2/3 are pretty decent. E2 still has some of the campy BS that's tough to watch in E1 but E3 as a whole was pretty enjoyable.

Episode I has no reason to exist. It doesn't progress the overall plot. There is no protagonist. The antagonist is not developed. The humor is juvenile and lacks subtlety. The CGI is impressive but removes the grittiness that made the OT interesting.
Interestingly, Episode 1 brought the 2 best aspects of the entire prequel films.
1) Darth Maul
2) Musical piece during the Maul-Jedi fight at the end.

Take out Jar Jar and the guys who played Anakin in both films. How is Episode 2 better than 1? I do think there are portions of Episode I that work, but I can't think of a single coherent scene in Attack of the Clones.

1. Writing was terrible.
2. Casting was horrible outside of mcgregor.
3. 60 to 70 percent of these movies looks like a video game.

I agree. Maul vs Anakin/Obi-Wan/Yoda in Episode 2 would've been much more interesting.
