I took the Bourbon Bowl to be a stand-in for the Sugar Bowl, where the SEC Champion takes on another major conference champion. With the mud dogs having had an epic season, perhaps in a G5 conference or as a traditional doormat in a P5, they might have had an at-large BCS bid. Since, at the time, the BCS championship game rotated between the four major bowls (Fiesta, Rose, Orange, and Sugar), then it’s possible that with the Bourbon (stand-in for Sugar) not having the title game, they may have hosted the SEC Champ taking on an at-large team or another conference champ (the mud dogs) in a top 10 matchup.
