Hahahaha, it’s fricking sad how seriously you take this and how angry you get with disagreement. Pathetic. Sorry I’m not part of your echo chamber.

First they came for the Socialists, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Socialist.

Then they came for the Trade Unionists, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Trade Unionist.

Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Jew.

Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me.

He was a plot vehicle for Kylo Ren. That’s it. He wasn’t the big bad.

The the complaints should switch to a different topic. If Kylo Ren is the big bad, the writing still sucks.

Darth Vader was the most menacing villain in film. Darth Sidious was just as evil.

Kylo Ren throws temper tantrums. He also idolizes a different character and lacks that "I'm the baddest of all time" attitude.

When's the last time you saw a well-crafted bad guy desperately want to be like someone else?

Your entire post is horrible, but I can't get past this part. Did you even see The previous movie? The light saber?

Yes I saw the previous movie, and am aware of the light saber flashback scene. If we are to take that scene at face value then she should be a Skywalker, end of story. However, if you just take that scene as her “awakening” and the Force allowed her glimpses into the bigger story she was about to become a bigger part of, then her parentage is unimportant.

The theme I was refererncing in my previous post that her coming from nobodies ties in to is the whole rebellion coming from the down trodden which was shown throughout the film and emphasized at the end.

Here's how I took it: the writer never watched IV through VII.

JJ Abram’s know how to start up exciting new franchises with layers of mystery but doesnt know how to seal the deal on that intrigue. Thankfully Rian Johnson does know how to tell a complete tale and took the mysteries that helped with his vision while putting the superfluous ones out to pasture

you can't talk about the powerful Skywalker blood suggesting force power is in your pedigree, then say that Rey is a nobody and Ben Solos force equal just lucked into that power for no reason. Even episode 1 said Annikan was a virgin birth which is stupid but at least it suggests Annikan was special.

The mythos of the Sith is that there's always a Sith Lord and a Sith Apprentice. When Vader killed the Emperor and died afterwards, the Sith were annihilated. But Snoke is suddenly a Sith Lord thus rendering the entire conflict of the OT meaningless unless they explain where Snoke comes from.

Supposedly they were. Snoke is just an extremely powerful dark force user.

Are great race horses always born from championship breeding lines? Do great athlete's children always end up being just as great athletes? Actually pretty rarely. The story of a great talent coming out of obscurity is an old one and well established even in real life. This is a common trope of genius coming forth from unlikely origins.

In fact after the last movie came out people were complaining about the possibility of Rai being related to the Skywalkers and how it would be bad writing if she were to just be coming from the same family. Now they go the other direction and there are complaints. Would you think anything is passable and not terrible? I think I get it though. The movie was kind of disappointing, and thus you need to criticize absolutely everything about it even inconsequential stuff that is perfectly fine.

Cynical me is thinking there was a decision on which needed more screen time and this won out:

I would have liked more back story but to be fair no one really knew the emperor's back story until after the release of the OT.

Very fair point but they also didn't kill him off the second time you see him either.Emprorer was a fleshed out character even without a backstory.

The problem with not revealing who spoke is/was is that they built up to it and then didn't deliver. The same with Rey's parents being built up in the Force Awakens and then in all the press and then it is a throw away line about how they were just junkies. It is a shitty resolution to a question that they built and teased.

No, you dont. I want to love it. I am jealous of those of you who enjoyed it. I am going to rewatch it after hearing reviews of people who loved it and try to see yalls side. As it stand now the movie had stretches of pointless fluff and one "wait...huh?" moment after another. Not to mention a brand of comedy better suited for deadpool.(can you hear me now Hux? and awkward shirtless Kylo)

In fairness, we knew as much about Snoke as we knew about the Emperor in the original triolgy. I think we’ve gotten spoiled with the back stories of the prequels and R1.

How did someone as obviously powerful as Snoke fly under the radar of The Emperor and Vader during the time of the original trilogy? It is a question that deserves to be answered.

Idiot.

The emperor having no backstory in the original trilogy is irrelevant. The fact is he now has a backstory, rule of two etc. There is a canon beyond RotJ.

By not explaining away a new Sith Lord they have essentially blown up already established characters/plot devices. I would be ok with new mystery characters a la Sidious, but not at the expense of the original Sidiious

The mystery of Palpatine was well done. If you want to have a mysterious character, that was how you do it. With Snoke they tried and failed miserably. They tell us he was around during the prequels, is obviously very powerful, but what, just wasn’t doing anything? It’s not that we don’t know much about him, it’s that they tease us with his mysterious background and basically just abandon it. With Palpatine, you still leave with the understanding of who he is and what he did. Snoke we are just left with, I guess he was just lazy for 50 Years then just decided to run the 1st Order.

So true... Those two (like most Great villains) were sociopathic, evil dudes who thought they were actually doing the right thing. But Ren, is... Well... Just a confused little boy...
