Yeah, I hear this a lot from people in the industry on Twitter. It doesn't sound like studios are greenlighting many projects

It's opening up a bit .... but has been a tough few years for many domestically.

The industry is really global, with London, Australia and SE Asia especially seeing some busy slates. Not to mention Budapest, Romania and Mexico.

All less expensive than the states to shoot in with viable crews and incentives. And no Teamsters $$$.

I posted this on another thread:

The one thing that bugs me about The WL is the presentation of Armand, Belinda, and Valentina driving shitty cars and eating a sack lunch in the alley. All 3 of them would make 6 figures easily including bonuses and commissions at a 5 or 6 star resort like WL. They wouldn’t be the “poor me,” put upon sad sacks that are depicted. They would’ve worked hard to get where they are and would believe they deserve it.

I get being tired of having to fulfill the whims of entitled guests at the drop of a hat, but they’re very well-compensated to do so.

I don’t know if it’s been discussed but I loved the fact they built the hotel manager singing up for several episodes and then when he does it’s for like a second as background noise.

It kind of made sense, because no one in the show seemed to care.

Maybe he goes crazy and shoots up the place?

I know that Atlanta and the greater area(and to a lesser extent Louisiana) was relatively booming there for a while, has that slowed down too?

Mike is going to pull the biggest FU of all-time:

The Lotus security confronts the Russians and all hell breaks loose, each side starts spraying bullets everywhere. This is how the previously mentioned Gaitok/Chelsea/Mook ending begins.

The entire resort residency is going down in a hail of bullets and while Belinda is getting a last courtesy boning from Pornchai (lol), they hear the firestorm and he acts as her human shield to get her to safety and takes one right in the chest and dies. Belinda grabs a briefcase with $100k in it that she agreed to take from Greg earlier in the episode and tries to find safety.

She sees her son hiding in the pond and helps him out. As the gunfire ceases, dead bodies of the entire resort lie around them. As she holds the $100k briefcase in one hand and her son's hand in the other, she steps over corpse after corpse to safety, and mutters to her son, "I just can't catch a break."

Then to seal the deal, prior to ending credits, there is a scroll screen that reads:

"Coming Soon... White Lotus Season 4: Belinda's Journey... Starring: Belinda"

Atlanta is steady, but has cooled off from record numbers and is "slow". Studios are over it, including Marvel who bolted for London. The crews there got ahead of themselves and started moving up too fast and demanding too much money, while also being known for show jumping. Short sighted approaches when things were booming. Now, not so much and it's catching up with them.

Louisiana is maintaining and has a reasonable (for both the state and the studios) incentive that will keep a steady amount of TV and medium sized films. It helps that there is a good infrastructure and crew base.

Wasn’t Landry trying to kill the incentives recently?

He might have tried, but I don't think it made it far. But, I'm not really in the La. loop as much. But I do hear things are heating up, including a film in BR at Celtic with Viola Davis.

I’m still stuck on the most outrageous murder of this season. The composer quit and released the uncut version of the theme song. They had a banger just like the first two seasons and cut it short.

quote:

When that came out, I had TMZ calling me, even people from England and from France, because they wanted some kind of statement about the theme. People are furious about the change of the theme, and I thought that was interesting.

I texted the producer and I told him that it would be great to, at some point, give them the longer version with the ooh-loo-loo-loos, because people will explode if they realize that it was going there anyway. He thought it was a good idea. But then Mike cut that — he wasn’t happy about that.

I mean, at that point, we already had our last fight forever, I think. So he was just saying no to anything. So I just uploaded that to my YouTube.

E8 Trailer

Anybody speculated on why Frank is stabbing the mannequin? Could it be he reverted to his old self, or is there another reason?

A few cast members have hinted that there is plenty of time for surprises in the 90-minute finale. But Mike White is a great writer, and he wouldn't introduce new storylines in the final episode. There will be twists and resolution, but think about it -- by the final episode in Season 2 we already knew the gays were planning to do Greg's bidding in order to get the money, and we had already been introduced to the planned killer. Tanya had already seen the old photo of Quentin with Greg. While drunk, Jack had already hinted to Portia that something was going on.

There's more going on and maybe more loose ends in this season, but I can't imagine anything happening that hasn't already been foreshadowed.

Like the killer fruit smoothie, for instance. The preview shows it's going to make its way to Saxon's blender, but I think that's just a tease. Tim is going to get his phone back and I think he's going to learn that Kenny Nguyen has committed suicide and the FBI has dropped the case. Tim will stop the family members from drinking the poisoned smoothies.

Likewise, I think the lovey-dovey scenes on the beach between Rick and Chelsea is a tease. I think they somehow will be among the group in the hotel driveway when the shooting begins.

The shootout figures to be among the bodyguards, the Russians and Gaitok and his boss. I sorta envision a final scene with Gaitok dying in Mook's arms.

The three women will be shaken by the whole shooting spectacle and return home re-bonded by the scary experience.

That leaves Greg/Gary and Belinda, and I have no guess how that gets resolved. We know Greg is devious and isn't reluctant to kill someone, but he hasn't shown himself yet to be a gun-wielding murderer. He had someone else do his dirty work in Italy. Who will be his planned accomplice here?

That's all I got. Just a big pile of guesses on how it all ends.
I think it's been a great season, and Mike White is still a genius.
We'll see how much of a genius on Sunday night.
