1951 version is my favorite because Alastair Sims knocks it out the park when he awakes on Christmas morning. Especially when he interacts with the house maid.
That's a really funny part and that poor woman thinks he's gone completely mad.
I will watch any version out there, but Sims, Patrick Stewart and George C. Scott are probably my favorites. I try to watch as many as possible during the season. Sometimes, I watch them back to back on the 26th, my day of rest.

I have not seen this in about 50 years, but I just checked and it is streaming on Peacock.
Mister Magoo's Christmas Carol
Jim Backus is the voice or Scrooge.

I know it's not the manly thing to say but I end up watching Disney's Christmas Carol more than any of the old versions. Yes it has a couple bad parts like when he turns tiny but overall it is very enjoyable.

Muppets is the only correct answer.

The one with George C. Scott.

Can't believe it took till page 4 of this thread for that mention.
An excellent interpretation and presentation -- especially for kids.

Even kids understood this scary scene:

This for me! Albert Finney is so wretched.

The old Alastair Sim version. Also the Sanford and Son version.

The dark as frick FX three-part version where Scrooge is essentially cucking the poor guy.

Crachett was a fricking slack arse, using his crippled kid as an excuse.

Favorite version of A Christmas Carol?
The middle school play I was in back in 1976 when I was 12. We must have done 3-4 performances, one at night for parents, one during an assembly for the middle school kids, and one or two for some visiting elementary school kids.
I played two roles in that play (since they were never together in a scene): Tiny Tim and the Ghost of Christmas Future (fully covered in a black hooded cloak; also helped so no one knew it was Tiny Tim under the cloak).
The ghost had no lines, so my only line the whole play was Tiny Tim: "God bless us every one!"
But in terms of the movie versions, Scrooged. Great update, laughed my arse off at that one.

I like the George C. Scott and Muppets versions the best.
Flintstones was a pretty solid rendition too.
Agree with all 3. Watch the Flintstones one every year with the family

quote:1938 version - I need to watch this one again. A Christmas Carol is probably my favorite story/novel. All about grace and redemption.
As Scrooge, Reginald Owen is a mean, miserly, old bastard. How much he changes is why I like this version best.
Faves include:
Scrooge (1951)
Scrooge (‘70s musical)
Mister Magoo’s Christmas Carol
George C. Scott
Scrooged
