the office. parks and rec was great. but its the office. michael scott is the best sitcom character of the 21st century

The scene with Michael and Jim was heartbreaking. Gets me sad just thinking about it.
Contrast that scene with the hilarious scene where Michael says goodbye to Oscar. Pure gold.
Michael says goodbye to Oscar

I'm a big parks and rec fan and have watched the run a couple of times, but The Office approached GOAT sitcom status

Yeah I understand we're trying to compare the two here but P&R doesn't hold a candle to The Office. I personally can't see how anyone could put them the other way around. The Office is legendary status.

At its peak, The Office. Overall with all seasons included, Parks and Rec. both are great shows but the last few seasons of The Office drag it down significantly. Parks and Rec never had a low point once it hit its stride in season 2.

Office was way more relatable and based in reality. Sure some characters were outlandish, but the world was real.
Every person you see in parks is some absurd character. All the townspeople are crazy or bizarre or they seem "in on the joke".
When someone like Dwight interacted with people outside of the office, they were like "what the frick is up with this guy?"
I liked that about the office.

pretty much. michael scott was a real, fleshed out, relatable person. i never got that from leslie knope. at least, not on the same level

Michael Dwight and Jim were a trio that fit together and clashed so much in difference that they are simply unbeatable. Jim was smart yet always pulled shite. Dwight was like a super tough nerd weirdo and Michael was possibly best tv character of all time

This is a familiar theme, but I'd say the office had higher highs and its peak run was better. However, it also had some BAD down periods, whereas P&R really only had season 1, and it was just 6 episodes.
Basically when michael leaves the office it goes into the shitter and stays there for a while. Also once jim and pam get together become a bit less likeable and after they're married with kid they're insufferable. P&R got good in season 2 and stayed good until the last episode.
This.
To me, the peaks are more important, so The Office is the winner.

Parks and Rec's last season...the feels...
That's a tough call. The Office went on too long. Parks and Rec quit while they were ahead and finished with an ending that just hit you. I'd think the answer would be easy if they quit when Carrell quit, but it's hard not to admit that the show just became weaker and weaker as you hoped for cameos and guest spots.

The Office is more consistent. P&R, peaks and valleys.

You've got it backwards
The only valley P&R had was season 1. Every other season is just as awesome as the rest, even when they lost main characters the show got stronger

The Office is better, but I like the characters of Parks and Recreation more.

Some of my favorite parts of The Office is when Dwight does his "karate" stuff. Like fight himself. And that leg kick he does. Hahah.
I also laugh when Jim ask Dwight if he can beat up Roy. "Doesn't count, warehouse guy"
Dwight: No women or children, unless provoked.
Jim: Ok, Roy?
Dwight: Warehouse guy. Doesn't count.
Jim: Ok. Michael? Could you beat up Michael?
Michael: Yeah, yeah, I don't think that would happen.
Dwight: Because we're friends.
Michael: Because I would kick his arse.
Jim: Well, Dwight's a purple belt, so...
Michael: So? I've beaten up black belts.
Jim: Uh, how did you know they were black belts?
Michael: They told me. After. You see, I used to run with a very tough crowd. Street Fighter types. Real, real bad people, I'm just lucky I got out.

When seasons 8 and 9 of the Office aired originally I watched live and was disappointed. But a couple years ago on TBS they started playing those seasons a lot and I realized they are pretty damn funny. In fact I watched several season 8 episodes earlier today and have done so often because they were a lot funnier than I remembered. Season 9 is pretty good too. When Nelly becomes the boss she is a female Michael Scott but I don't know if it's because she's British or a woman but folks hated her and she was doing the exact shite Michael would do.
I can't watch season 4 of Parks because election Leslie just annoys the frick out of me and that Paul Rudd character was so fricking dumb. Other than that I like Parks and Rec but Leslie gets on my nerves in most episodes because in a lot of ways she was selfish as frick even though she had a good heart. I feel like at least Michael Scott was more charming when he was being selfish.
There's even a few episodes where they tell Leslie she bulldozes over everybody but then she did it in most episodes and they just went along with it.
But overall I like the Office way more because I can only take Leslie in small doses.

If the office would have just ended when Michael left this wouldn't even be a debate. I really like parks a lot. Rewatched it this month. It's just not as good as the office

The difference was that Michael had actual authority, and despite being socially retarded and a goofball, he got results. Michael was untouchable because, despite his flaws, Scranton always outperformed.
Nellie was a nobody who just assumed power based on nothing.
I've watched the series twice. First time I stopped at the season 7 finale.
Just recently watched it all the way through 9.
8 is an obvious dropoff, but not horrible or anything.
9 was bad. Writers pushed so many storylines so hard because they had to get it all wrapped up at the end. The Jim and Pam situation was so stupid and made me hate them. Pam was a selfish bitch, and Jim was an idiot that did himself no favors.
