Kurt Russell's dad used to make baseball training films. There was a Netflix doc on him and his Dad and the Portland minor league team....they were quite legit.

Costner if memory serves played college baseball for a little while in the mid 1970's at Cal State Fullerton. He was a jock in high school.

Lancaster though was an unbelievable athlete.

Dolph Lundgren is a good athlete....and something of a certifiable genius. He was European karate champion before he was an actor.

Was at MIT before he got into acting, already had a master's in Chem. Engineering

Willie Beamon perfectly crafted what is now basically the modern day QB like 15 years before it got to that point

Kevin Costner I believe could be a headcase alcoholic golfer that doesnt take good advice from his caddie

Yeah but people who know golf know that while his swing is decent for an amateur, is not even remotely believable for a professional.

ETA:

He was very believable in baseball movies though. Fluid athlete clearly.

Jake Gyllenhaal did a really good job as a boxer in Southpaw.

Yep he did.

I'm guessing athletes playing roles in movies don't count because LT was pretty believable in Any Given Sunday

The guy who played Shooter McGavin looked exactly like the golfers of the 90s before Tiger forced everyone to start hitting the gym. His swing was not believable either.

Stallone is a horrible athlete who was barely believable.

Carl Weathers obviously wasn't and was quite believable.

Glad someone said this. Stallone is clearly a stiff, uncoordinated meat head that is a terrible athlete. Weathers is a fluid, top level athlete that was very believable in a ring.

Costner is hard to beat in For Love of the Game and also in Bull Durham.

Just about the opposite of Tim Robbins in Bull Durham who looked like he couldn't throw a baseball all the way to the plate.

Kills me!

He's supposed to be throwing 95 mph fastballs and in reality looks like he's throwing with his non-dominant hand

While he was too handsome and WASPish to pass for Jim Thorpe, his grace and physique made you think he could win a pentathlon, decathlon and play multiple pro sports.
