Errol Flynn was pretty convincing as a boxer in Gentleman Jim. He claimed to have once qualified for the Australian Olympic boxing team, but this has never been confirmed.

Jake Gyllenhaal did a really good job as a boxer in Southpaw.

Black men can't run: in Brian's Song James Caan (formerly on the Mich State and Hofstra teams), playing slow footed Brian Piccalo, had to slow up in the running scenes so as not to leave behind Billy Dee Williams, playing Gale Sayers

Charlie Sheen as Rick Vaughn in Major League. The dude had the build and actually looked like a pitcher when he threw the ball. He played pitcher in high school and could actually throw a fastball on set that got into the high-80s range. But he was also taking steroids at the time as well.

His throwing motion definitely looks natural in the movies. You can tell that he must have played when he was younger.

Now that is commitment to the role.

Dennis Quaid is fairly believable. He wasn't any world class athlete, but at least played youth and high school sports.

OJ Simpson - though he really wasn't in athlete roles.

Despite his height I actually bought Tom Cruise being a small school CB in All The Right Moves. I've never seen any details about how much Cruise actually did but most of the on field scenes was either him or a doppelganger stunt double

I’ve always thought Dennis Quaid did a good job in multiple rolls.

As others have said Kostner in baseball movies.

I don’t know his name but the black kid that played Boobie Miles as well as Bobbie Joe Hill in Glory Road. Great actor. Was in a lot of stuff then sort of disappeared.
