Where would you rank Frasier in the pantheon of best sitcoms?

I'm 28, and I dont' know a soul anywhere near my age that has ever seen more than 1 or 2 episodes, much less actually likes it. I love it though. It ran for quite a while as far as sitcoms go, won a ton of awards, had one of the longest running "characters" in TV history (yes I realize cheers makes up a large part of the frasier character as well), and had pretty likeable characters overall. Why do you think this show doesn't get more love? I realize it's not for everybody, but it seems like it is largely forgotten and nobody ever talks about it, but it really was a pretty awesome show IMO. The chemistry and interactions between Niles and Frasier were so fun to watch, and the series long cat and mouse with Niles chasing after Daphne was great (until they got together, then it was less great).

Top 20. Not really sure where though. I feel like it's a very solid show...but I don't know if it had any episodes that I felt were classic and would revisit.

I don't feel like making a list or anything, but I think if I did, it would probably rank just outside of 10.

That's actually a really good point. With other sitcoms (and just shows in general really) there are episodes that really define the series that people can cite immediately. Frasier doesn't really have that.

Top 10 for me personally.
I had no idea that the Dad was a Brit.

It was pretty consistent, but I never loved it like I loved Cheers or Seinfeld.

Frasier was a great show, but for some reason it never inspired any strong feelings from me, either.

I'm about the same age as you and I've watched the entire series. Several of my friends have as well.
It was an incredible series that had some of the best situational irony in television history. I think the humor was often lost on the general audience.

I really liked Frasier and would put it just outside my top 10 even though Niles is one of my favorite sitcom characters ever. I guess the most memorable thing for me is when I found out the guy the played Bulldog was gay.

I probably wouldn't rank it at all.

I don't know - probably not top 10 - but I thought it was a lot funnier from the series from which it came, Cheers.

Great description. It's a consistent solid show always delivering a couple laughs but no one says "dude remember that episode of Frazier when...". Great acting, characters, writing, by it never got that little something that pushes it over the edge.

That's pretty much the way I look at it. It's a funny show that I enjoy when I happen to watch a random episode, but I've never once brought it up or discussed it with someone.

32 here...One of those shows that I will stop on when nothing else seems to be listed..No real reason, I just always liked it..

Upper half. When it was about Frazier and Niles and their foppish ways, it was very good. The Niles-Daphne story arc was like every other sitcom and just meh. Producer David Angell was killed on one of the 9/11 planes and the show lost its way after that.

Frasier Crane is my favorite television character of all time. The last few seasons of Frasier is what puts a drag on it - many successful shows hang on too long (Friends, Seinfeld - although Seinfeld not by much) - but there was a time when Frasier was my favorite show - after Cheers having been my favorite show.
It was, by far, the smartest comedy ever, and BBT only superficially approaches the intelligence of Frasier.

Probably somewhere just inside the top 75.
Nothing remarkable about the show but it had a good run. I believe most folks are too focused on recent shows, movies, actors, etc... when they start ranking stuff on this board. Just off the top of my head, I could not put Frasier in front of shows like M*A*S*H*, All in the Family, WKRP, Sanford and Son, Taxi, Welcome Back Kotter, and a few others from the late '70s and early '80s. I'm not knocking Frasier, but I believe it has to be much further down the list.
