Suits has done incredibly well on streaming long after the show was finished, so they're bringing the concept back with a new cast in a new city. Not a bad idea.

Here's where it goes south. Harvey Specter made that show as well as Lewis Litt for comedic relief.

They've released one detail about the show, and the new main character will be a black girl in her 30s. I've been following details for a while hoping this would be good, but I suspected they would go woke and now they've confirmed it.

I expect it will be met with Disney results. I'm not saying a black girl character can't be interesting, but we've seen how this goes when identity politics come before the storyline.

they already had that with mikes GF/wife

they also had the strong black woman (harveys boos) running the company, kicking arse and taking names, yet they canceled that show, the very show they fantasize about making today

they had all the greatest tenants of wokeness already in that show, and it was perfectly done right alongside all that white privilege and toxic masculinity.

IDK why they thought Jessica Pearson could carry a show on her own

If you were a fan of Suits, you would be aware...it was actually a very black show.

Every guest supporting character, judge, outside lawyers, cops, DA, etc. seemed to be black.

And of course the head of the firm was a black woman. And half of the new hires were black.

Correct, and I couldn't wait for those scenes to be over. Specter and Litt is what made that show.

Every scene with a black person was either about being a victim or standing up to white racism, or both. I could suffer through it to get back to the main characters.

That bullshite will most likely be front and center in the spinoff.

She was easily the least interesting, often time most annoying, part of the show. They had to know it would suck.

So having a show with a black lead is considered “woke”?

Taking a spin-off of a popular show with 2 white makes and then making somebody who is 6% of the population the lead, could be considered woke.

I don’t have any problem with it or anything and I hate the term “woke,” but definitely fits the bill.

And this has zero to do with Megan Markel, huh?

Good.

So if it was set in a predominantly black city like NOLA or even ATL, it would not be woke bc it better represented the area’s racial makeup?

Could this just be a spinoff like how CIS did different cities for different seasons? What if this is just a new city with new characters? The first iteration had whites as the lead. How many spinoffs would be required before a minority could be the lead and not considered to be woke?

It was popular because if was a white male power character. Similar to mad men

Their prerogative to cast how they want, but the popularity won’t be close

Wtf

Do you honestly believe that the race of Harvey had anything to do with the success of the show?
(Louis was Jewish and played into his role. I can admit that the stereotypes propelled the character success).

Harvey (or Mike) could be any race and be successful. So long as he was easy on the eyes for the female audience

Black people who can afford to move, such as attorneys, don't live in these hellholes they created.

Then wouldn’t the original series fit the “woke” bill? Main character in a biracial relationship working at the most prestigious law firm in NYC which is run by a black woman and the other top tier law firm is run by a black man.

How does creating a new story with new characters become “woke” by casting a black woman as lead?

i mean half of Gina Torres' (who is great character in and of herself and a solid "wood" with all respect to Wash) character is her one upping white men and talking about her name being on the sign.

i'm not the arbiter of woke. i'm not decrying woke. i don't even know if i can define woke.

but a black woman in a position of power ranting at people that never owned slaves or participated in Jim Crow laws in a state that didn't have slavery or Jim Crow and fought against those things.... is woke. i'm not saying that she wasn't even in the right about things like being a woman or a diversity hire, but you can go watch highlights of her character and it's bringing race or being a women into most of the time.

it's ok. i watch plenty of things with that kind of dialogue or other things that play into race. i like suits.... but it's a bit woke. still good.
