There's a TV at the gym that plays movie clips. This scene pops up pretty much every day.

When the King went down the front row hitting their swords together, that was improvised. He told Peter Jackson it just came to him and the actors went with it.

All time great scene for me. The build up to this point in the movie and story just hits right.

My favorite scene from any movie. Chills every single time. Will sometimes watch it to get me out of a funk.

Different than the book, I like how they had Theoden come full circle from afraid and hiding in book 2 to full wartime king at this point. he torches himself for is failure at Helm Deep until this point.

Fantastic scene. Another favorite is when he and Aragorn ride out of the Hornburg and Gandalf appears with the Rohirrim at the top of the hill.

Gandalf: Theoden king stands alone

Eomer: Not alone. Rohirrim! To the king!

And then 30 minutes later you get the Aragorn "for Frodo" battle. ROTK might be my favorite, but it changes so often.

Without a doubt this is the best adaptation of a book series ever, 100 years from now people will still be watching these movies.

The best part of that scene is showing how powerful mounted calvary was back in those days. 4,500 mounted heavy calvary could have easily been a match for 10,000 infantry with the correct leadership.

I love the small scene when Theoden comes over the hill and sees what he’s up against. Although it cuts back and forth, you can see a brief look of fear and then he steels himself, frowns and has a subtle “ehhh” growl before he turns and addresses his soldiers.

I do this today every time I have to go do something I don’t want to do but has to be done.

ETA: also they recruited horse riders from all over New Zealand for that scene. Some are CGI but a lot are real. You can tell they’re having the time of their lives all armored up, hauling arse and whipping their swords around….especially the guy they show right before they hit the line.
