I just watched the first two episodes. Haven't read any of the books though they've been on my list. I thought the scenery was nice and the village settings well built but the filming seemed...old? Like their technique was from Conan the barbarian circa kevin sorbo. There wasn't any explanation of the witch characters, why they exist, or why everyone was afraid of them. The initiation scene was kind of dumb and took too long, then bam, trolls out of left field and a sword home boy makes off with, with zero talk, and everyone just happily rolls out of town after half of it gets slaughtered. I did enjoy the battle though. The second episode was yet another one where a bad thing happens from a very unexplained event. I'll keep watching it because adult sci-fi/fantasy is my jam, but I won't set a weekly alarm for the episodes.

Same - it felt like it could have been much better. Very disappointed in the opening scenes. Very little insight and bad production. Give us a hook, some background, a bit of explanation, give us something . . . more.

I’m glad I’m not a book reader. If this is as different as Foundation is (a massive disappointment and slap in the face to someone who has read the books numerous times), well, I get it.

It seemed pretty good but not completely sure yet of the players. Not sure where it was shot but it is beautiful landscapes. I will watch episode this season. So it looks pretty good.

Absolute dogshit. Character assassination of Mat being a thief. Perrin married and killed wife? W.T.F?

The Dragon could be a woman? Four Ta'veren?

I was so excited for this series, only to be completely disappointed.

If you read the books, you will absolutely fricking hate this drivel.

It’s not even the alleged “woke” that’s killing this show man. It’s just a showrunners fanfiction bullshite. You don’t need the woke argument to a lot horrible production value (for what they’re paying), huge character deviations, bad VFX, meh set design, and piss poor writing.

D&D we’re garbage without source material but awesome with it. They needed someone of equal adaptation skill.

There’s no adaptation here. Just familiar character names and places.

this thread is really hurting from being 90% molested by book reader BS.

And this adaptation is a 90% molestation of the actual story itself.

Talks of "war", have no idea who is at war with who. Seen a couple of villages and at least one other group of folks (surely you've heard of us, right? Do you know the song?), none of which seem connected or affiliated to anyone else; none of which are big enough to wage a skirmish, much less a war. Is there supposed to be a larger state nearby, or are they part of one? Get one glimpse of 'an army' of sorts, a guy with a General Grievous stack of trophies from the witches. Saw him kill (and eat?) one. Misguided good guys, bad guys, I don't have a clue. They do seem interested in going and finding the minotaur critters, and are civil to our party (assuming they are normal people). So I assume "good". Ruins randomly splayed about the landscape, no reference to what they are.

Let’s be fair here, they’re not going to reveal and explain every single thing in the world within an episode. It’s like that for every new show I don’t understand the impatience to know everything yet, things will be explained in more detail as the world builds if you stick with it.

God knows how many questions D&D never explained for seasons, we went years without knowing more about the WW.

Do you really want exposition every time they pass ruins?

Go to the book board and discuss.

I guarantee I’ve been reading the books a lot longer than you and I completely disagree.

Main girls nose is super big. Red haired dude made me not want to watch show. They did forge man dirty and that was too fricked up. Thief was my favorite besides the warden dude. Pike is weird looking when she did the spells. Spells in fight seemed almost useless for a long arse time. Warden was killing trollocs way faster while she was dancing. Voldermort was cool looking. The wisdom or whatever she was is annoying as shite also. Lighting was awful and felt cheap. Gleeman was a cool dude.

Overall liked it and will watch it. Lol

This is my favorite take on the show yet. I mean that in no insulting way.

Think people are being a little harsh, but I didn’t read the books and I’m not much of a snob when it comes to some entertainment. I like fantasy and sci fi so I can take a little more with deficiencies. The quality seems just fine. It’s not got level production quality but it’s fine. I’m starting episode 2

Watched the first 3 and ready for more. For those that know the story, is the Gleeman a part of the story or is he not gonna be around long? I liked him and Matt together.

I truly do not get the incessant bitching. It’s pretty good and entertaining in my opinion.

If you read a book series over 25 years and the movie comes out with all of the characters changed for no reason whatsoever, then you have a right to dislike the series just as you have a right to think it is fine.

I haven't watched it yet so I have no opinion.

I have no problem with the book people hating it, would just rather they keep the bitching about it to the book board thread. Dont need this thread littered with people bitching about the differences between the two.

The characters aren’t “all changed”.

I tried to get through episode one again because people said it gets better, it doesn't, it's just bad on so many levels. Definitely went above and beyond to appease the woke folk. It sucks

After 3 episodes, I’m good. I finished this morning and most of my concerns were correct. First episode was tough for book readers and I totally get that. I think if book readers can just understand it is what it is and roll with most of it you can be happy. Imagine being a Dark Tower fan and getting that garbage (with all due respect to Elba.) that was a complete and terrible page to screen adaptation that didn’t even closely resemble the books.

However..
