He doesn't see beyond the tip of his own nose.
The showrunners have done an absolute shite job of explaining and reinforcing some very basic concepts in this world. Saidin/Saidar, Aiel, Darkfriends, Angreal, ta'veren, etc. are things that have been mentioned once or twice in passing (if at all) while some other, more immediate, story event was taking place. There's no reinforcement of these things for the non-reading viewer so it shouldn't be surprising when they aren't able to identify an Aiel (they had only seen one other at this point and he was dead in a cage), much less how badass they are.
I had to bitch at him in the Non-Reader thread for chastising them about their not understanding of this.

Some other things that have bothered me that I'm curious about yalls opinion.
I don't understand why they didn't give Perrin his axe and Matt his bow. The axe was a pretty nice weapon and Matt was actually decent with the bow. It makes both of their characters seem weaker. Instead they give Rand the sword and the bow. He looks kind of dumb carrying around both especially in a quiver that carries his entire bow. That thing is massive.
I've grew up in and still am in a very big archery family. My dad is a big bow hunter and used to strictly traditional hunt and has even killed elk with a recurve bow. My oldest brother was the founder of Diamond archery and now manufactures Bow Tech bows and Raven crossbows. My other brother owned a retail archery store and I worked there and really enjoy bow hunting.
I say all that to say this... I don't understand why shows, and this goes for most shows, don't do any research on how to actually shoot a bow. Rand is a marksman and shoots his bow completely wrong. You don't pull a long bow (the kind he is shooting) back and hold it and aim. You pull back and release. If you pulled back a long bow with enough pound draw it would take to kill anything, your arm starts shaking heavily, the arrow shoots wobbly and you can't be accurate. To draw a long bow back and hold it it would have to basically have the draw weight of a kids bow and couldn't kill a rabbit much less what these people are trying to kill.
Archery rant is over.

I liked them - both better than perrin. He whines and complains for 10 books while Egwene accepts her role and does what she has to do.

think this is totally fair, but also Egwene is an annoying arse character. And she doesnt even compare to Elayne.

I'm on episode 5. Starting watching episode 5 three different nights in the last week and just haven't finished it yet, which tells me something about how much I'm enjoying this.
I've read the first 5 books. The show is just....not that good. I want to like it, but I don't find that many scenes that I like.
The visual tone/set design is both good and horrid (I particularly find it difficult to see dirty people covered in brand new looking clothes, which in part look like blankets from my couch).
The actors are a very real mixed bag, but its also as if they purposely chose some people who just aren't pleasant to watch/look at.
To this point, I'm the happiest with Rand, Morraine and Thom. Nynaeve I'm pretty happy with as an actress and her scenes, but she seems to have chemistry problems with other characters - that may be on purpose. The others are ok at best, but even within their own quality they are wildly inconsistent.
Since I haven't finished yet I won't get too much into the changes to the storylines. I understand some are necessary. But lots of little plot weirdness where the world/characters don't seem to make sense. The menancing and capableEamon can face down multiple Aes Sedai, but screams meekly for 5 seconds (queue slow motion austin powers steam roller) waiting for Perrin to do something? That happens over and over. The entire Aes Sedai/Dragon's army battle was just not physically plotted out well.
TL:DR - show runners don't know what they are doing for the most part.

the way this show was filmed, I keep waiting for the tardis to show up.

I gave the first season the benefit of the doubt to the very end.
But the finale, somehow, was the worst episode of the season.
The opening scene makes me think no one involved has opened the books. More like the show is based on a conversation at a bar someone had with someone who DID read the books.
Not only is the Dragon Reborn the Dragon Reborn, but the actual Dragon, that the Dragon Reborn is reborn of, well, let's call him the Dragon Reborn too! In another language!
Turrible.

quote:it was terrible. the last scene is a perfect summation of just how shitty this rendition is. A little girl on the beach, no clue who the frick she is, and a few ships with channelers with painted faces, conjuring up a tidal wave to attack her.

Like, wtf is even going on? And oh look, we found the Horn of Valere right here under the floor where we hid it
This show is dumb as frick for a non reader and makes zero sense. As a book reader its a Woke Age garbage version with major plot gaps and complete unwritten occurrences.
Oh and lets just throw in Lews Therin being black just for good measure at the beginning. Gotta have inclusivity

Lmao. Reading the Reddit reviews of this shite storm, a second season shouldn’t see the light of day. Glad I leaves out after 3. Reading the crap Rafe has tried to pull has been hilarious. Not one success in this entire $100 mil mess. This is essentially The Joker burning that pile of cash for shits and giggles.

Egwene is a far better character in the books. However, the way she, Nynaeve, and Elayne manipulated and used Mat made me hate all 3 for the rest of the series (Making him go to Ebou Dar). Book 6, I think

Haven't read the books and don't care. Enjoying the show unless they go off on a woke tangent. I expect several seasons.

The actor who plays Perrin is an absolutely atrocious actor and I'm not sure why more people aren't talking about this. Some of those scenes were just straight up cringe. Like the scene where he's supposed to be "cold" and trying to make a fire. Go rewatch just that scene. The guy is shaking his body and jaw like somebody out of a bad comedy.

I’ve read the whole series twice now and am hear to say that this is absolute dog shite. I do not know how people that are paid a lot of money looked at this script and said “yea let’s go ahead and blow a couple hundred million on this”. I understand having to appeal to mass audiences but my god this is just bad.

Catching up on the last three episodes tonight. Why do their clothes look like couch upholstery?

Why does egwene have Oscar the Grouch eyebrows. Worse than the mole.

I haven't read the books but I ended up liking the show. Just finished the last episode. It's intriguing. I'll definitely watch the next season. I did buy the 1st book yesterday so I'll see how the show compares. It's definitely not GoT status. Yet. Those 1st 4 seasons followed the books remarkably well.

So did they just decide they’re going to still Moiraine? And implication was Mat goes full bad guy at the end? Major divergences from books.
Posted on 12/25/21 at 11:29 pm to Saint5446
So…. Loial is dead. Moirane is stilled. Rand is going off on his own as opposed to assisting in the Hunt for the Horn (which I believe was mentioned for the first time as they were digging it out). Mat is back in Shadar Logoth. The Seanchen, who certainly are invaders but give us no reason to think they’re random child murderers, are now using their source users to kill little girls on the beach (I can’t see any other reason to send a wave that’s smaller than the cliff it’s about to crash against).
So. Yea. Some changes from the books.

This finale was like a sci-fi channel movie from 2006.
Holy frick the acting and CGI was awful. Legit terrible CGI.
Sharknado takes a dump on this shows’ special effects.

Well since this is the book thread the bow/arrow is how Tam introduced the flame and the void to Rand....which eventually was the technique that allowed Rand to control the One Power. I realize none of that exists in the show, but the did have the bow and the sword in the books and the above is kind of why....why he has both in the show I don't know.
Although I really thought they were going to introduce the flame and the void technique when he was shooting the 2nd time in Tar Valon in the show....but alas they did not (at least not that I saw).
