quote:No, I actually sort of do want to know. Doesn't have to be detailed, I want to have some sort of context as to where we are.
And the following do you REALLY want to know this stuff. You shouldn’t. It’s stuff you don’t really find out for several books. You are asking questions that will be revealed and you Really really don’t want to know them now.
quote:That's not hard to say, and not ruin things for the actual story. I wanted to know the backdrop. It allows me to pick up what to look for.
Think of a future world 1000 years from now that is actually completely changed, ripped apart, all nations changed, billions dead.
And now it’s 3000 years later.
If you read a book about stuff like that, it's ok to be vague, because there's usually clues and hints written here and there. Descriptions of items the reader can piece together, etc. And there's often a teaser in the foreward or on the dustcover, to give you SOME reason to pick it up.
I'm clueless on this, other than I've heard of the book series. Not ABOUT them, I just know they exist.

You really don't know that detail for like 4-5 books though.
It won't ruin it but its a fun discovery.
TBH I don't think any mystery is needed as its a great series.
Who the Dragon Reborn is is pretty damn obvious early on in the first book.

Non-book reader here. I watched the first 3 over the weekend and I guess it was okay but it didn't captivate me. I'll keep watching because I was really excited for this and hold off judgement for now.
I wish they did a little more world building early on instead of just jumping right into the action. I'd like to know more about who people are, who's at war, maybe a map of the world, and what makes Moraine think that one of these 4 are the dragon. Is it just bc of their age bc that seems like a stretch? And how she and the dark one find them? I suppose all of that will come, but it would've been nice to cover some of that in the first 3 episodes.
Also this is kind of a silly complaint but they could've made some of the characters a little more attractive. It's not like any of the cast seems to have been chosen for their outstanding acting ability

SHOW SPOILERS
She covers that in her dialogue in E2 I believe. Right after they get done singing, she talks about the history of the Two Rivers, a previous city called Manatheran, and how those 4 have the "Old Blood" in them. I believe she also speaks of a sightless Aes Sedai giving birth in the White Tower 20 years ago....

Mentioning that the guy in the beginning is Logaine is a spoiler for somebody like me who is a 3rd of the way through book 1.
That isnt logain and I’m pretty sure that scene isnt in the books in any fashion unless it happens in the prequel

She also mentions ta'veren, 4 (which there's only 3 in the books) which are threads in the pattern of time that are special and pattern evolves around. I.E. very special people. That's what the whole threads and looming stuff is in the opening credits. Those 3/4 are the main characters in the show so far.

Talks of "war", have no idea who is at war with who. Seen a couple of villages and at least one other group of folks (surely you've heard of us, right? Do you know the song?), none of which seem connected or affiliated to anyone else; none of which are big enough to wage a skirmish, much less a war. Is there supposed to be a larger state nearby, or are they part of one?
Like any complex story, you can’t expect to know everything right away.

It always puzzles me why people don’t go to the dermatologist and get those big facial moles removed.

What did I miss? I dont remember, was Friday when I watched it. That's what I thought Moraine's story said?
Posted on 11/23/21 at 8:53 am to YumYum Sauce
From what I remember, the eldest Aes Sedai (Gitara, maybe she was blind?) had a vision of the Dragon being reborn on slopes of Dragonmount. That's how Moiraine and Siuan know the age of the Dragon reborn.

Oh.
I watched Thursday night, don't remember the exact wording.
Posted on 11/23/21 at 9:10 am to YumYum Sauce
No she did not say the Aes Sedai (Gitara) was pregnant and gave birth in the White Tower.
