Lan, Moraine's warder (bodyguard bonded through magic), gave a decent monologue of the root cause of the "blackness" and some things not to do while they were in the city. Also, Moraine had foreshadowed them going there and that it was a terrible idea to do so, before she passed out.

Ahh, ok. TBH, I was mid drunk watching this.
I still say it's rushed.

It just means non-readers, i.e. people who haven’t read the books this show is based on.

Also, why didn't the "heroes" walk around the outside of the city to find each other? At minimum when they split up they could have yelled, meet up to the east.
This has been the biggest head scratcher for me so far. I mean.. how far could they have possibly gone away from each other during that 3 minute escape scene?
This feels like one of those things that just doesn’t translate very well from book to show. The LotR movies had a few of those moments as well, so I’m not going to get to worked up over it. But it’s definitely a plot hole.

Figured it was the purists aka “Book nerds” throwing all the downvotes.

At the risk of incurring Fun Bunch's wrath
,
I'm curious on the divide between readers and non-readers on this so far.
I'm not a reader, but I've heard of the books, and was very eager to see this.
So far, not impressed at all. Having some trouble determining what's going on, and why I should care.
Not sure why the gang of kids are so pissed at Moiraine, after she just saved their fricking village from a band of feral minotaurs. I'd think a little respect and gratitude would be in order. Same thing for ol Wisdom girl being pissy; she might have survived, but the village was toast. Shitty job of protecting the village (or whatever her role was), perhaps a little less attitude would be in order now?
Are we supposed to like the slacker thief because he watches out for his sisters, or is he ultimately a bad guy who happens to have some humanity? My initial take is the latter, so far. Seems to have to justify his behavior a lot, when there's little hope of going back to help them right now.

Should I give this a chance? Forget reading the books, I know absolutely nothing about TWoT.

Do you like epic fantasy? If yes, give it a go otherwise it hasn’t been great after 3 episodes.

It's not good. Like LOTOR if it was created by Rain Johnson not good.

It is ok so far.
It isn't grabbing me but it has promise of possibly becoming good.
BTW, is Perrin supposed to be mentally challenged or something? He seems kind of slow. Perhaps it is just because of his wife situation.

I read the books over a decade ago so a lot of my memory is fuzzy. Interestingly it helps me watch the show a bit as a reader and as a non-reader.
What you mentioned is a gripe I made in the reader's thread that's not about anything spoilerish, just how the writers rushed a story aspect so much that it causes problems for both readers and non-readers (as evidenced by your post).
In the book their flight from their home was more detailed, with a growing conflict from their being dog-tired (from having to flee after just fighting for their lives) which leads to frayed nerves. Then that conflict is escalated by their asking questions of Moiraine and her not answering them (dodging, refusing or just remaining silent). They rushed this in the show so Rand's blowup at Moiraine seemed to come out of nowhere, thus it felt forced and jarring.

Second episode was better than the first (going to provably watch the third tonight).

I just assumed he’s brutish so he’s not the smartest but definitely the strongest. I tend to agree he’s likely also slowed down by grieving.

Man he's in shock but it comes across as bad acting. I blame the writing more than anything.

The translation of the name of the city is “Shadows Waiting.” Lan explained the origin of the name. Mat awoke the shadow and it proceeded to do its thing.

So what do we none readers think of the 4th episode. I enjoyed it and felt like the world/situation is getting a little more fleshed out.

I’m having to watch with captioning on to see what the hell they’re saying a lot of the time. Don’t know the terminology of this world.

The Witcher was the same way. And to be honest, besides a couple WTF moments (The White Walker, Bran being pushed by Jamie), I think it still took a good portion of season 1 for me the think “ok I’m ready to get immersed 100% into this fantasy world, and I want to know everything about it.”

I’m with you. I enjoyed it. They definitely connected a lot more dots for folks like me who not already know the lore. I could nitpick - for example, they spoon fed us the explanations of the different colors which was a little awkward in context. But at the moment I didn’t really notice it because I just wanted to know what it meant.
Honestly I think the show is pretty good. The first episode was a little rocky but other than that I’ve been engaged. I feel like a lot of the negativity is coming from either A) people who red the books and are going in expecting a letdown or B) people who want this to be GOT 2.0, which is a pretty unrealistic expectation no matter how much Amazon spent on production.
I don’t think it’s the pinnacle of TV storytelling or anything but it’s still enjoyable. It seems like nowadays people have to either love something or hate it.

The Witcher’s problem was 3 different timelines with 5 different plots that wasn’t very easy to figure out until the 3rd or 4th episode. I admit to being much more ignorant of Witcher lore than WoT though.
