I stopped after the original trilogy. Are the other books as good as the first three?

The First Law trilogy by Joe Abercrombie. As much as I would love to see it, there would only be a 10% chance they'd do it justice.

Better in my opinion. The scale is much larger and the story is expanded to additional POV characters. That’s a bit jarring at first and Iron Gold is slow to get going, but Dark Age and Light Bringer are my favorites of the series. The final book is being written now. Hopefully late 2025 release but no word yet.

As far as adapting it, I would prefer a show over a movie. HBO would be ideal but Apple has the sci-fi genre nearly monopolized lately. As long as you can get the razor combat down and spend the budget on the iron rains, I think the first trilogy could be adapted. The budget required to do the rest of the books would be insane.

They are currently adapting Best Served Cold as a movie. Rebecca Ferguson (Dune, M.I., Silo) will play Murcatto and the director is Tim Miller (Deadpool 1). Seems an odd place to start and would ruin some reveals for the first trilogy, but I’m looking forward to it all the same. Currently reading the series. Just finished The Heroes and started Red Country then on to the Age of Madness.

Joe Abercrombie endorsed Tim Miller as the perfect candidate to direct the films, saying, "There is no bigger fan of, or bigger champion for, these books" on his website.

What aspects of Red Rising do you think they wouldn't be able to translate to the big screen?

I think it would would be hard to portray the grandeur of the cities and the settings. It would have to be all CGI.

Also, the way they describe combat with razors would need some expert level choreography.

Then there's just the question of style. The landscapes would want to feel like Blade Runner / Dune but that might clash with the book theme.

Mass effect is a good one. They’d royally frick that up. On the video game front, gears of war could be interesting. The old StarCraft games had really cool stories, but it’s a dead ip now.

Neuromancer

7 Princes in Amber

Both are getting made. But I don't have high hopes.

I would love a good Dresden Files series

The Syfy series wasn't bad. Blackthorne was a solid Dresden and it captured the feel of the first 3 books pretty well. Too bad they didn't get to go into the later books where shite got real.

I have no confidence they can do anything justice.

After seeing them crap on Tolkien, George Lucas, and others

I enjoyed all of the stories set in that universe, but I honestly couldn't give a shite about Murcatto. I want The Bloody Nine. Ferro. Glokta. Jezal Dan Luthar. Say what you want about Logan Ninefingers. Say he's a more interesting character than Murcatto.

The whole Foundation arena - BUT starting with the Elijah Baley / Daneel Olivaw books (Caves of Steel and The Naked Sun. The reveals would be amazing as the movies progress - with the final being Foundation and Earth.

The Apple series looks great - but is sooo far off from what it should have been.

The issue, of course, is the CGI needed, as well as the distance in time between all the properties.

I’ll also add the Thomas Covenent Books as well as the excellent Gap Cycle books (that has my favorite name ever, Angus Thermopyle) - by Stephen R. Donaldson.

The whole issue, of course, is getting any type of traction in having the anti-heros of both being pretty much rapist. The whole ideas would be changed up.

It's a comic book title that is fantastic and even has a built in sequel. But people are not overly keen on little girls cursing and murdering happy Fairy Tales creatures.

Only if Apple or HBO get the rights. I wouldn't trust any other streaming service to get it right.

Blood Song by Anthony Ryan

Not the whole trilogy. Just the first novel. They can end it after the first novel. Just have Vaelin leaving the isles to track down Sister Sherin.
