What was your first “amazing” theater experience?

I’m sure a lot of old baws will say Star Wars, but I wasn’t old enough for the originals.
I would say my favorite theater experiences were all the LOTR in theaters opening night, I saw each 4 times in theaters over the course of their runs. I mention that just to get out of the way my “favorite”, but this post is about most amazing. Not best movie you’ve seen in theaters.
I think the first time my jaw truly dropped in a theater and I was speechless at what I was watching was Avatar.
Yea the storyline was a complete rip off of Dances With Wolves and Last Samurai, but the 3D and CGI I was seeing was absolutely unbelievable. I think that was the first time I truly started to appreciate the technical aspect of film, because Cameron had done something I’d never seen before and it was incredible. I think I went 3 times just because of how cool it was on the big screen, no matter how ho-hum
the story was. That first night scene when Jake Sully is alone and the bioluminescent plants were literally in your face I thought I was on LSD. Then the flight sequences literally took my breath away like I was there due to the camera angles and 3D.
I don’t give a shite about the plot of Avatar 2 when it comes out, but I can’t wait to see what Cameron comes up with in new ways to film it.
I think Cameron is right behind Spielberg in “amazing action sequences” that just leave your jaw dropped wondering how they filmed it. I would imagine Aliens and T2 made you feel the same way if you saw them on the big screen.

Felt my first boob during the Incredible Hulk.

The first movie that I can remember making an impression on me was An American Werewolf in London when I was like ten or eleven. Gotta love dollar theater matinees with no parental supervision.

As a kid I snuck into bram stokers Dracula the day of its release. Was a fun time, I'd been hyped about it and already had a crush on Winona since beetlejuice.

Remember the Titans with my sister and my grandma. It was a few months after it came out at a theater that picked up movies after their initial run in most theaters.
Looking back, it was an incredible first movie to see in theaters,

Wow you hit the jackpot.
That's like the perfect age to say, holy moly, what the hell is this awesomeness?
2001 would only beat that if you saw it in the theaters originally.
Roger Ebert spent a life watching movies and said that was the most mind-blowing experience he ever had.
Fewer got a treat most of us didn't.
You can't recreate original awe years later. It's just different.

I'd seen Jaws in the theater a couple of years before that. But a lot of that movie was pretty boring, when you're a 5 year old kid.
Star Wars seemed like it was in theaters for at least a year, or so. I think I ended up seeing it 12 times in a regular theater and once at a drive in and couldn't wait to see it every single time.
