And.

Yeah, but nobody agrees with me on Star Trek .

I don't hate everything, just that movie (and Transformers, and English Patient)

Heck, we just watched Say Anything the other day, and we're going to rewatch Almost Famous this weekend. Maybe I'll gin up a Cameron Crowe thread next week.

Just to keep the positive people happy. (Remember when you asked for an example of irony? This is it.)

I am one in the same with you there, pal.

And I'm not saying spirited debate and disagreements over the pros and cons of a movie are bad. I understand perfectly that people will bash movies, whether almost universally loved or not. I'm just surprised at the number of threads dedicated to it is all. Like people had someone dump in their cheerios this morning.

ETA:

Why is there this need to bash "movie snobs".

I don't believe I have. And there should be a question mark before the closing quotation mark.

No I haven't. Quite the opposite. I hated English Patient. That's a terrible movie. I compared it to A.I. But, I immediately countered with Elephant Man and Mask, being movies addressing similar themes as being well done.

If criticism and opinion, balanced and supported is the same as "piss and vinegar", I don't know if I can help you.

Not to mention, this place would suck if everyone agreed.

Sure, some people are bashing, but others are coming to the movie's defense.

That's called debate.

Actually, I think it goes after the quote, there, LTM. But, normally, I'm not the grammar Nazi.

Unlike commas, it follows the logic -

He asked, "Why don't you guys come over later?"

Why does the O-T always have so much "drama"?

Maybe I'm wrong, but I think those are correct examples of question mark usage.

I was just giving Baloo shite because he was mad about "bashing movie snobs." It was probably a dumb thing to do since he tends to get into fits on here, but I find it fun to poke the ol' bear every now and then. And it most definitely goes inside the quote, though I don't really care.

In any case, the point of this thread was to get people to stop drinking the haterade and start drinking... the... loverade? ...Wasn't there a movie with Sandra Bullock about Loverade?

I stand corrected. You are right, Ace and Baloo.

Those two movies, imo, deserved threads talking about how people didn't like them. Ted sucked and Skyfall isn't a typical Bond movie.

Are we only allowed to start threads about movies we like?

If all of these movies had come out at the same time and that time was yesterday, I could see how having three threads about how bad an individual movie is. But it's just strange to me that we have 3 first page threads discussing the OP's hatred for movies that came out months or years ago. I think like BaddestAndvari said earlier: "misery loves company."

Oh yeah, you're wrong. On both counts. But I know I'm pretty much alone on liking The English Patient.

Oh, and I'm not much of a grammar Nazi. I dislike pedantic arguments, and largely avoid them. I'm always up for substantive debate, but I don't really care if you use the Oxford comma.

In Skyfall's defense, it just came out on video, which is why I saw it and I'm sure many others. I don't really ever go to the theaters.

There are problems with all of those movies.

People on this board like to discuss movies, both what works in them and what doesn't work.

Baloo? You liked English Patient AND A.I.? How very sad.

Did you at least like Elephant Man and/or Mask? I think both of those films are underrated. You had Lynch working with somebody else's material (which is typically excellent, see Dune), and Stoltz is one of those underrated actors that I wonder why he didn't do more? I know he shows up in most of Cameron Crowe's movies, had a nice turn in Some Kind of Wonderful, but I think he had the potential to do more. He did a lot of stage work, and that may have limited him, somewhat.

I never watched Killing Zoe or Caprica, and he has good reviews from those as a well.

I heard someone argue you had to be a certain age to get all teh jokes in Ted. I'd be curious what the breakdown of over 30 and under 30 would be for those that hated Ted

I did as well. The English Patient isn't a perfect movie but it is quite good. And I liked the characters and intention of the writer in A.I. well enough to forgive what I didn't like

I guess it is like my grandpa used to say - "Everybody likes something different and that's a good thing. If it wasn't that way, I'd have my hands full fighting people off of your grandmother."
