What season (or moment) did the Simpsons jump the shark

It is well known the show is a mere shadow of it's former glory, with current episodes so tied into cliches about pop culture and celebrity appearances it barely resembles the glory of the mid 90s.
So I watched the episodes about Springfield having two area codes tonight, A Tale of Two Springfields, for the first time tonight and was blown away how funny it was for a season 12 episode. Anything after about season 10 I assume with vary from solid to absolutely terrible.
So where did the show fall off? The commonly held belief is season 8, specifically the Skinner being a fraud who stole a fellow soldiers name and life episode. But I still there's a bunch of good episodes of 8, and a lot in 9 and 10 too.
So in your opinion when did the show really fall off, and why? And can you point to one specific reason or example?
Just curious what the popular opinion was on this board.

There's a famous chart showing the rating of each episode.
There's a clear ehift on it too.

I think I gave up on it not long after they did the movie. I honestly think it should have ended there (and the movie wasn't all that great either).

Right after Phil Hartman died, so around season 9. The show went to shite after that. I've tried watching an episode here or there, but it's more of a chore than entertainment.

As funny & intelligent the "golden age" episodes were, there was also a refreshing simplicity to them. The stories could be explained to the point in few words, and they dealt with situations the average person could relate to. Somewhere along the way (probably around S12 or 13), that philosophy was mostly abandoned for good, churning out stories more "zany" than simplistic, and the characters seemingly were over-explaining every setup or punchline they uttered....
I'd always said, the fewer words you can sum up any given episode, the funnier it usually was. IMO...
ETA: I will admit that some episodes are better in hindsight, though. I remember when S6 came out, people started grumbling that they jumped the shark then, which seems laughable to think now...

I loved the New York episode, prob one of my favs of all time, but it felt different after that. Hartmans death was impactful for sure.
