PoP was alright. God even as I kid, I knew Mario Brothers was a god awful movie.
Still, in shitastic video game movies, you have to mention this one:
Even Alyssa Milano's boobs couldn't save it...

The only two good ones on the top of my head are "Scott Pilgrim vs the World" and "Wreck-It Ralph". All others have been failures IMO.

I wonder if Legend of Zelda could be converted into a movie franchise?
I think Pixar could do it with a young Link going on a quest. However, honestly I think the game is too campy for a movie.
A gears of war movie could be interesting.

The only Zelda game that could work as a movie is Majora's Mask.

An interesting one would be a movie that inspired a game that then inspired a movie.
Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic has been mentioned as movie worthy.
Personally, I've never played it, but it would be an interesting twist.

Halo
In conflicted on Halo. It could be fun if done like Starship Troopers.
I'm just not sure if seeing a CGI Master Chief next to live action actors will look right.
For example, I cringed in the Tobey Maguire Spider Man movies when Spidey was shown up close next to real actors. It never looked right for me.

There hasn't been a single good video game movie.
The Resident Evil movies have done well enough for 3 or 4 to be made.

Yeah Resident Evil 1 has to be probably the best one IMO.
Not amazing, but good compared to all the other game to movie conversions.

This is a perfect example of how this should be done. This is the best film based on a video game and will probably not be topped.

Did they essentially just take the animation for the cuts scenes and turn it into a feature length movie?
This is probably how it it should be done for a lot of these movies. You could keep the same look, same voice actors, and turn it into a quality film.

The Max Payne movie pissed me off quite a bit. Movie talks went on for years for that game, and the final result was quite disappointing.
Considering what they had to work with - Marky Mark and Mila Kunis in the lead roles, good source material for a video game, etc. it sucked hard. I guess the biggest mistake was the PG-13 rating because the game was a rather graphic shoot-em-up like John Woo's The Killer or Hard Boiled.
The film ignored so many elements that made the game so fun, though I think that could be said for most VG adaptations. If done right, Max Payne could have been an effective action-noir.

Will video game movies ever get the same treatment?
I'd like to see it but I doubt it. There's a lot of potential there with some games. I'd love to see Assassin's Creed and Red Dead Redemption as movies.

I think that would be a unfair assessment of this film. Although I can see why some would think this.

one of the worst movies ive ever seen. i wouldve killed for a chance to write that screenplay. The movie completely failed in capturing the tone of the game

Well, I'm assuming that there was more to it than that. I wasn't really suggeting that they just strung together the cut scenes.
Many of the good action adventure games and RPG's have great cinematics throughout the game. Some of the games such as Mass Effect I wish they would string together the scenes with material to fill in the gaps, and then release a nice summary movie that you could watch after you beat the game.
I realize that would be out of the scope of the game, but I bet they could make a good bit of money if they made it available as DLC.

I went to the IMDb trivia section of Max Payne and saw this:
He had to be getting trolled with those requests because he couldn't have done a worse job of pleasing fans of the game.

Director John Moore has said that he tried to please fan requests as much and frequently as possible.
