Top Gun

+ Mission Impossible

He's made a bunch of really good movies, but these will be the 4 he's most remembered for in 50 years.

The Last Samurai

Need more because I would include Born on the 4th of July.

I can tell that most of you have never bothered to watch his Born On The Fourth Of July masterpiece of acting. His best, hands down.

Only Magnolia and Last Samurai can compete with BOTFOJ. I put up A Few Good Men as his fourth best and Rushmore worthy.

Cruise is a fine date night, action hero but when he gets the right script, he nails it as a dramatic lead.

Also, he’s losing his youthful looks and will soon have to take the route of other young leading men and play some more mature rolls — a la Paul Newman, Harrison Ford, Tom Hanks, Robert Redford and others.

Only Brad Pitt can still play pretty boy roles. And even he is showing age ... but not slowing down.

Dang, nobody liked Far and Away?

I liked it. Similar to liking Knight and Day and Minority Report.

My 4
Top Gun
A few Good Men
Jerry McGuire
Jack Reacher

Honorable mention for Mission Impossible, The Last Samurai, and The Color of Money

I havent seen the majority of them (valkyrie, collateral, edge of tomorrow, Maverick, rock of ages, magnolia, the outsiders)

Agree with this, BUT I was thinking through his best overall ovies, not his best performances.

Additionally, there's Valkyrie, which while not Top 5, can be underrated.

I completely forgot that film. I'd replace Eyes Wide Shut with it.

Had never seen Edge of Tomorrow until this thread. Watched it this weekend. I need another rewatch, but man that was a solid movie.

Days of Thunder

Or

Jerry McGuire
Rain Man
A Few Good Men
Risky Business/ Cocktail

As much of a lunatic as he is in real life and all that the guy undoubtedly takes his profession extremely seriously and it shows in his work. It’s the reason his movies stand the test of time and are infinitely rewatchable.
