We've had a new season of South Park every year since 1997. It's also been clear, every year, when the next season would drop. In the fall, they always seemed to start sometime in September - October.

2020 happens and there is no official word on when the next season will air, though they released a couple of specials.

In 2021, we get news that they are renewed for several more seasons and lots of movies, but still, here we are in Mid-October and there's no word on when the next season will air. What is going on? It just seems really odd that there is no word from Comedy Central or Matt and Trey on why they haven't put out a new season and what their plan is going forward. We are supposed to get 2 "movies" this year...so will we not get a season until next year?

It's been close to 25 years. They're probably tired of coming up with new episodes.

That's understandable...but they signed a new contract to put out several more seasons of the show...

They just signed one hell of a deal for like $900 million. They’re going nowhere.

Accurately predicting the future takes time.

It is certainly weird.

I really don't count the two specials as "seasons", so we haven't had a new season in 2 years now.

And there has been SO much material to work with.

Season 25 will premiere some time in 2022. They haven't nailed down a date. The pandemic specials were counted as Season 24.

That's the worst part for me. SP commentary on just how stupid the country/world has gotten would be a bastion of enjoyment during these times. But not only have we not gotten that, but we likely won't for a while.

I've enjoyed the specials, but overall they are not what I want. What I want is weekly SP, even if only for 5-10 weeks at a time. And I want scathing social commentary, no matter who they are going after. Mix in one or two "random, old-school type" episodes where it's just the boys doing some random kid shite and that'd be a perfect recipe for a season for me.

Tired, perhaps. But it's not like there's a dearth of material out there these days for them to satirize

They've gotten older and their joints (ahem) are creaky and it takes longer to count their money. Plus, they have a lot more money to count this year. That takes even longer.

Standing up to China was good, but they have been EXTREMELY shy on PC/left topics the past few years.
