this was one of the best seasons so far i thought. why does everyone bitch and moan and say to read the wiki instead?
what did i miss? i thought it was great in that we finally saw a battle with the white walkers, a revolt the queen barely survived except by a wounded dragon, stannis doing stannis things and getting his in the in, arya taking revenge, cersei humiliated and of course the ending with snow.
i'm stoked about S6 now but sad i'm quickly catching up to S8.

so you'd argue the other 4 seasons had just as much stuff going on the entire season or in a few episodes as well?

I don't hate it at all but I do think it was one of the weaker seasons.
The plot kind of drug along until the end and the quality of the dialogue definitely dropped. However, my biggest complaint is that this is when Tyrion ceased to be the Tyrion we all know and love. I understand that the character has to change after the way S4 ended by it cost the show one of--if not it's best--characters. Even after finding a new purpose he has never recovered and it's honestly altered the show's likability. At least for me it has.
ETA--S5 did give us "Hardhome" which for me is a Top 5 episode.

Even bad episodes of GOT are still good TV

I’m saying that most of the other seasons were better from episode to episode. Up until 5, 1 through 4 were almost perfect TV. It didn’t keep that going but it was still good here and there. Hardhome and Dragons were cool but that wasn’t till the very end. Selmys end was frustrating and there were plots and episodes that just dragged. It’s like the writers were a little timid about going beyond the content from the books. Season 6 was a good bounce back.

I can’t think of anyone on this board that would say that Season 5 is better than any of the first four seasons.

The complete mishandling of Dorne and it’s occupants is what took S5 down about 10 notches compared to the other seasons.

This post sums it up well. Context.
The high sparrow sucked, though, and that storyline was pretty stupid. Religion suddenly becomes a major force in Kings Landing and the Lannisters are afraid to kill him b/c of populist blowback? GTFOH.
The Unsullied getting fricked up by a street gang was kind of dumb too.

Problems with Season 5
1) Barristan being killed by a bunch teenagers defending Grey Worm. In the very least have him go down defending Dany. That’s Writing 101 bullshite.
2) All of Dorne. A double frick you for wasting Jaime’s time all season when he should be in the Riverlands smacking Freys.
3) Tyrion’s arc is boring as crap. The book doesn’t help much here either, but I was never all that happy when he was on screen.
4) Littlefinger selling Sansa off to the Boltons and her subsequent rape. This makes no sense on why he would marry his greatest weapon off to the Bastard of Bolton.
5) Save for when Drogon comes swooping into the arena, Mereen is boring as hell.
6) Stannis’ death is anti climatic.
7) While I liked it when she killed Ser Meryn, Arya’s arc is boring as well. They do better with this next season though.
So there are really only 2 good arcs: Cersei’s and Jon’s. Those parts kicked arse, but the rest was disappointing. I’ll be fair that the books don’t help, but that’s the only place where I’ll give it a pass.

I love all GoT seasons but it is perhaps the weakest
A bad season of GoT is still better than 98% of TV

Biggest complaints about Season 5 were how badly they screwed up the Dorne plot line from the books (valid, bc they screwed it up royally) and that Sansa’s rape was gratuitous (sort of valid, considering it was a diff character it happened to in the books, but also not that valid bc it was WAY worse in the books, and also, what did people expect? It’s GoT).
I think there was an overall dip in quality of writing starting in Season 5. Funny how that coincided with them running out of source material...

The Dorne episode was so bad it left a bad taste in people’s mouth about the whole season. Deffinitly still had good moments and episodes
Bad GOT seasons are still the best thing on TV at the moment

My guess was that his next move would be to knock off the Boltons and gain further control of the North. Jon showing up fricked up his plans

I liked Bronn and Jamie bumbling through Dorne. You can't forget that Jamie was damn near worthless in a fight at that time.
The cell scene with Bronn and Tyene was frickin HOT.
Also, the scene with Barristan and grey worm showed that neither were invincible and Grey Worm still fighting and killing when he had nothing left in the tank was pretty cool.

Why not outright conquer them? The Vale has no loyalty to the crown and they hate the Boltons, not to mention all the Northern houses hate the Boltons as well.

OML covered pretty much everything. first season where showrunners had to write a bunch of their own material, and it all bombed. epic fail, made-for-tv nonsense

Hardhome was awesome and I wish they had this in the books.
