Either you don't know what an Incel is or you've never seen Fight Club and American Psycho

If someone is that strongly influenced by a work of fiction to actually go out and murder people, that can hardly be blamed on a fictional character in a fictional story. It's ludicrous.
while I ultimately agree, to try to put violence squarely on the feet of a fictional work is dumb considering the person who commits the violence was probably actively looking for a rallying cry, do these works have any legitimacy when it comes to turning that potential violence from mostly internal to external?

Like lets say we have some random dude whose deranged, what's to say a movie that glorifies mass violence from a sympathetic villain can turn him from simply committing suicide, or being abusive towards his family, to acting out in the same way as the villain and shooting up a walmart?

Idk. My initial inclination is to feel like they shouldn't have any role but I think it's an interesting topic

The issue with censorship is, where do you draw the line? The news? Books? Are we really ready to start burning books again? Are we really ready to shut down every news station that offends anyone? There would literally be no media.

I think we need to look at other avenues of dealing with the mentally ill IMO. People want to say they glorify the joker in this movie. Is that to be said about every movie with a good villain? Is the villain in Black Panther to be glorified? His parents left him for dead and his family shunned him. No. Is someone who has been in this situation and sees the movie going to start robbing and murdering people? Is Black Panther to blame for having a very good villain? frick no man. That's ridiculous. Those people have problems and THEIR actions are their own fault. PERIOD.

How many 20-25 year old dudes do you know that praise Patrick Bateman and Tyler Dryden? Either way, that’s an odd thing to know about people

Sociopaths will find anything to draw "inspiration" for their anger and bitterness. If we worried about how mentally deranged people will or would take certain things, we would never be able to create anything.

Also having a villain be somewhat relateable makes the villain infinitely more interesting than just someone being evil for the sake of being evil.

then don't watch it, don't read the threads, and ignore everything about it. you will literally never be subjected to his origin story if you choose to ignore it.

So you’re giving us your interpretation of critics’ interpretation of the movie. Mmm,
I think I’ll see the movie and judge for myself. Until then, I don’t know how to respond fully to your post.

You're suppose to have a fully formed opinion prior to seeing the film.

You fricking sociopath.
