For me, it is HBO's John Adams.

You really can't beat it. While it is horribly inaccurate, it is about as 'Murica as you can get in a movie. I like this movie a lot.

Fun fact.

Tom Wilkinson plays Cornwallis in this movie, but he is on the other side and plays Ben Franklin in John Adams.

There's only one movie worthy of watching on July 4th

My wife loves 1776 but I think it’s more nestalgic for her. It’s a tradition from her family and boy they really get into it.
It drives me nuts but I’m not much of a musical fan.

Loved this series, but doubt I would ever spend the time to watch it again. That's a huge 8+ hour commitment to revisit for the 4th of July.

Yup...for the past few years I've made my boys sit down and watch the episode where they sign the Deceleration. It puts and entirely different spin on the holiday...a far more sobering one which is needed given how monumental a decision it was for them to undertake.

If you don't get choked up feeling the weight of that, you're doing it all wrong.
