Das boat is the only one that matters.

Has been my default answer when asked my favorite movie for years now.

A four hour movie that just didn't last long enough.

Yes. As long as you can get past the lips not synching, that is the version I have always seen.

as I understand it, the Das Boot cast all spoke English, so they were able to dub themselves. so you hear their own voice in both the German and English versions

This was remade as... the Star Trek episode "Balance Of Terror'

And, to be fair, reworked again (combined with A Space Seed -also Star Trek: The Original Series) to make the script for the GOAT science fiction movie:

The Wrath of Khan.

Can't help but love Crimson Tide

quote:

- Mr. Cob?

- Yes, sir!

You're aware of the name of this ship, aren't you, Mr. Cob?

Very aware, sir!

It bears a proud name, doesn't it, Mr. Cob?

Very proud, sir!

- It represents fine people.

- Very fine people, sir!

- Who live in a fine, outstanding state.

- [Cob] Outstanding, sir!

In the greatest country

in the entire world.

[Cob] In the entire world, sir.

- And what is that name, Mr. Cob?

- Alabama, sir!

- And what do we say?

- Go, 'Bama! Roll Tide!

As the daughter of a 27-year submariner, movies in this genre are among my favorites. As a kid, Run Silent, Run Deep was my favorite. (Kind of like The High and the Mighty with John Wayne for pilots.)

My nephew is a SWCC Chief over two boats, who was recently commissioned as a Warrant Officer. He identifies with The Duke's PT Boat movie, They were Expendable.

Where is the Mt. Rushmore of John Wayne movies?
