I’m still sticking with Bernard being a robot though. That is the big reveal. And Hopkins is the one telling Bernard what to do so it’s actually Hopkins wanted them to become self-aware.

yeah it seems like you can't create consciousness in the robots from human-robot contact and you have to grow it organically among the robots. so he's kind of planting a false flag via bernard who then plants the REAL seed in delores

im just not seeing how this whole "finding religion" angle is the future of the park??? Sure it helps hosts find their conscience but I don't see what's in it for the guests. I'm guessing that is what that business woman is trying to find out too.
So for the Bernard is a host crowd, do y'all think it's normal for this business woman to just show up and frick hosts? She seems a little more professional than that. That's really the main reason to me that Bernard is not a host. I've been wrong before though.

women have the same desires as men

a serious professional woman would definitely seek out a zero attachment, sex only relationship

Well how would she know Bernard is a host? They have the same makeup of a normal human, sexual organs, bodily fluids, systems, the works. It would be almost impossible to tell the difference unless you knew already.

I don't think Ford cares how it affects the guests; business is not his primary concern. He basically said as much in the way he referred to the otherness of the board and their goals. His goal is to create. Period. Eventually, all creators aspire to be God and that's what is happening to Ford. He's gone a bit crazy in his pursuit IMO but his motives are completely different than the motives of the board and business people running the park. It's apparent to me that that is one of many conflicts going on in the story: creation for the sake of creation vs creation for the sake of profit

I think the board clearly just cares about investors. And maybe some alternate use of the technology like military or medical.

Think of the army they could build. They are training marksmen that can't die and can be controlled with their minds.

Which could be yhe greater conflict that is unfolding: how should technology like this be used? Militarily? As a scientific study of the human condition? Still seems like Ford is well beyond the whole pragmatist view of this place; he's seeing how close he can fly to the sun while playing God

And I'll rephrase something I said above: I think ford cares about how it affects the guests insofar that the alterations he makes to the hosts need to be tested against the real thing. So the guests do matter to him but not in the way that they might mater to the board

We're talking about a future world where they have robots indistinguishable from humans that have functioning organs.

I think they can fake a skype session

yes, but that would be poor writing. They should have cut to memories if he is a robot, not an elaborate interaction with another person. I think the video call and story about his child were intentionally included to showcase his humanity, but because "Lost" ruined television, people want to look much deeper into every little thing.

Didn't read the whole thread, any potential that the big project Hopkins is working with the earth moving could be Medieval World AKA potential GoT crossover material? Stay true to source material and have the ability, wouldn't really want to see GoT in it though.

I was actually going to point out that this may be evidence of him being a host. On the episode last night she is getting out of bed and he asks her why she is leaving so quickly, and she tells him she already got what she needed. I.e., she knows he is a host and he's there to satisfy her. Also, note the way she talks to him, basically, this is the way it's going to be and it won't be a problem, right? He caves.

a few basic questions

1. Have we determined the year and place where Westworld is?

2. Why do you think McPoyle is an important character?

3. Who is the board? They always say "The board will approve, etc"

Lastly, can we all agree the older chick is hot?

Nope. At least I haven't figured it out. I don't think it really matters, either. Seems like it has been left intentionally vague; it'd make it easy to disregard a lot of the philosophy of the show of we could chalk it up to some science fictional future. Kind of how Ex Machina was powerful because time period wasn't really established (at least not that I can remember).

2. Why do you think McPoyle is an important character

He's the moral center. Everyone else is running around fricking and killing and he's just there for the true West experience. He gives the audience someone to relate to on an ethically neutral level. Hence he's paired with Deputy Douchebag who acts as his hedonistic opposite.

Well, the assumed answer is that they are the financial backers of the park and basically keep the place running. Who or what they actually are and who they're comprised of is anyone's guess. I still think the man in black is one of te board members and apparently was the head of some medical foundation

Considering Andy Greenwald loves GOT, and had a whole show devoted to it himself, it makes absolutely no sense that he would dislike WW based on a show being too dark and rapey.
