Trashing A Beautiful Mind is heavy on the huh.

And how does a musical score manipulate?

Annie Hall beat out Star Wars in 1978 and five decades later no one under 40 has ever heard of the movie.

Then they are missing out. People who love film at least know the movie.

Woody Allen beat out both Spielberg and George Lucas

I think you are using 20/20 hindsight. He was a well respected filmmaker, especially at the time. Frankly his body of work as a director is much better than Lucas as a director, who only directed 2 good movies. Obviously Spielberg got his due but Close Encounters was not better than Annie Hall. I know people don’t like Allen because of the allegations against him, nevermind that he was never charged and no evidence was ever found of child abuse, and he married his ex long time girlfriend’s adoptive daughter who is 35 years younger however they are still married so that’s not really anyone’s business.

I used to be a HUGE watcher, threw watch parties, it was a big deal.

I started to sour on the SPR snuff as well...it was not even close.

Meryl Streep getting Best Actress for The Iron Lady (2011) against Rooney Mara in Fincher's The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo was the last time I watched zee Oscars. Streep is amazing, but I did not think her work on The Iron Lady was more deserving than Rooney Mara in The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo.

Since then there have been years I did not see any of the nominated films.

So sad.

I think there are a few reasons best pictures have changed. The first is people stopped going to the movies. So movies are not turning a profit the way they used when they could make up cost in DVD sales. So less and less money is being invested into movie making. Now the formula is making a film in 5-6 weeks, less cost and better chances of not taking such a severe loss.

The other issue, the academy should step away from having so many best picture nominees. F1, I really enjoyed it but it was a popcorn flick. Nothing that would have been considered a best picture nominee years ago. Sinners, same thing. I enjoyed it but years ago it would not even be considered for best picture. It was a vampire musical. But these movies now get in with the lack of film making it to the box office and the expansion of best picture category. Go back to when there were 5 nominees and the quality of films increased than what you see nominated today.

Is this seriously a movie people love and defend? That has not been my experience. Just because the Academy fell for it doesn't mean you have to.

A Beautiful Mind is a good movie that shouldn't have won Best Picture. I feel like it's reputation, much like Shakespeare In Love's, would be much better had neither of them won the top prize in their respective years.

Paint-by-umbers biopic melodrama designed to appeal to old guy Oscar voters? The definition of Oscar Bait. Crash is worse than A Beautiful Mind, but they share more DNA than any fan should be comfortable with. Bad performances made worse by brutal dialogue, heavy handed saccharine nonsense, oversimplification of an incredibly complex issue, unforgivable cliche stacking, shitty cinematography, big manipulative score.

Do you watch movies for entertainment or do write term papers on them? You seem miserable.

I love movies. I was miserable watching A Beautiful Mind, because it's bad. You can disagree with me, but you guys don't have to be such pussies about it.

Again, this hive of A Beautiful Mind love is hilarious and new to me. Some research shows that IMDB is where this is highly regarded, a movie website for children. Do you guys revere every basic movie on their Top 250, or did you guys just love Apollo 13 and decide to give Ron Howard a forever pass? Go watch Eden on Netflix. I'm sure you guys will think it got robbed of a Best Picture win.

That’s not being a pussy asking why you feel the need to write term papers about movies. They’re for entertainment. Lighten up, Francis.

Why are you watching an awards show anyway? Do you need a movie you like to win an award to justify you liking it?

I'll never not be amazed at people that get upset over what other people enjoy watching.

I just don't understand people who get upset that something didn't win an award based off people's opinions.

Ouch. That is a bad snub. I think Meryl Streep is the most overrated actress or actor in all of Hollywood. I just don't get it. There have been a few roles of hers I liked but I think I've disliked her in more movies than I've liked.

I will never get the love affair with her.

I have, and it isn't great.

But Crash is way worse.

Crash is basically the quality and writing of an 80's after-school special, written by an HR department filled with extraterrestrials who have vaguely heard about human interaction and race relations in the US as a concept.

Chicago is just a shite musical made by the one person on Earth who thought Renee Zellweger could be a sex symbol in Hollywood

Both bad, but there are levels, and Crash is it's own level.

Wow...this is certainly a take on one of the best portrayals of schizophrenia and mental illness in modern film history.

I know people hate Shakespeare in Love over Saving Private Ryan but Crash is the worst Oscar winner ever. Contrived trash. Situations that don't happen. Over and over and over in the steaming pile of crap. But since it was contrived racist crap it was Oscar worthy.

Shakespeare in Love was an actual good movie. Crash should be burned and buried in a midden heap.

Bill Maher lambasted the Oscars and he seems to be all of us.

YouTube Link to Maher Saying the Oscars Should Hashtag itself #OSCARSSOWRONG instead of #OSCARSSOWHITE

I also had no idea the criteria requires some form of purposeful casting, hiring of crew, or storyline to represent “underrepresented people.”

fricking Christ.

If you walked out you didn’t really see the movie. The story evolved into a
Very entertaining narrative with complex characters…
