Moore is famously disagreeable with everyone, especially if he feels that he got fricked on money or he got fricked on the adaptation. League of Extraordinary Gentlemen’s film version is a particular berserk button for him because he got sued over Fox changing his script and incorporating elements that supposedly came from someone else’s work.

Doesn’t make him wrong in pointing out that the show runners have no fricking idea about the material.

While the identity of Hooded Justice was never officially revealed in the original series, the inference is that it was Rolf Mueller, a giant white guy who was sympathetic to Nazi Germany, rather than who they made it in the show, given he matched Justice’s build and was found dead shortly after Comedian went looking for him.

That is in complete contrast to the insanity that was in this series explaining who he was and what happened to him.

The Simpsons summed this up pretty well with Moore’s work vs what others did with it.

I just happened to look up his net worth and he is worth only a $1M after all he's written?

Keep in mind that he's passed on receiving payment for the use of his works in Hollywood, or has asked that his portion be given to his co-creators (Dave Gibbons).

You'd have to be to enjoy modern mainstream American comic books.

He bitched about his movie, and people lined up to agree with him, but honestly I felt the movie was a pretty faithful adaptation and just a good movie overall. It got a lot of unjustified hate.

I agree that MOST of the adaptations of his works have sputtered because people make changes that damage the story:

The Killing Joke - the animated version throws in a VERY unnecessary romantic relationship between Batgirl and Batman

The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen - Lots of issues, just poor reception all around

From Hell - poor reception, but admittedly I cannot recall the major differences between his work and the movie

V from Vendetta is the only one that is generally considered a success.

I too find the fascination with superheros by grown adults to be disturbing.

What about grown adults who watch cartoons?

i find watchmen to be in the top 5 comic book movies. it's a pretty faithful rendition to be honest. some things here and there to nitpick.

speaking of, i let my 16 year old watch Logan this weekend. i had forgotten it's the best movie, but remembered exactly why i haven't watched it again since seeing it in theaters.

ETA: i think zach snyder is why it gets a lot of hate.

It was as close to a shot for shot, panel for panel version as you could get in a 3 hour film of a densely layered 12 issue series. And yet, he still utterly missed the point. It was about gritty realism and what if "superheroes" existed- the outfits would be more realistic and fights would be dirty, etc. But he had these big fight scenes that were choreographed and slow motion.

If that's true it's justifiable why he's so bitter. Could you imagine someone taking your script adaptation of your novel, not only basterdizing it but also stealing someone else's ideas in the process while keeping your name attached....and then you end up getting sued? Good lord.

Yep.

He explicitly compared it to Titus Andronicus, talking about having a beautiful daughter who ends up mutilated.

Some of the Hollywood stuff with him is overblown but that one deserves all the hate he gives it.

It’s been a long long, long time since I’ve seen this movie but I don’t remember it being anything close to the GN except Jack the Ripper

Basically it's week after week of white man bad, black people are victims.

This simply isn’t true

Outside of Manhattan playing pretend as a human, and Angela's family, literally the only other black character in the whole show was the cop murdered in the first scene.

The white supremacist group is not a huge storyline. They aren't even shown acting racist. The show is about this universe's weird history with vigilantes, the fallout of 11/2, Adrian Veidt showing everyone he is still the smartest person alive, and his quest to defeat his daughter, a villainous progressive tech type. The white supremacists do, however, uncover Veidt's scheme and see his daughter for who she is.

Tulsa was an actual goddamned atrocity that actually happened and most people aren't even aware of it. It was a fine backdrop for this show and it didn't play a racial agenda.

But because it is the backdrop, and there is a white supremacist group, all you Cucker Tarsonists hoot and holler like the apes in the opening scene of 2001 and shout WOKE WOKE WOKE

Well said. fricking horrible show. Basically it was made for a demographic that only exists in twitter comments.

I don't know who you're calling a "Cucker Tarsonist," whatever you think that is, but it sure the frick isn't me. I also didn't say shite about woke. What I mostly said is that black trauma as entertainment is a guilty white Hollywood trope that is pure exploitation. It's condescending, pandering, and self-congratulatory all at once. If you think that Watchmen shite show said anything useful about race in America, you're dumb asf.

If you feel like it wasn't directed at you, feel free to move on.

Watchmen the HBO series had very little to say about black trauma. You take away the backstory of Hooded Justice, and there is next to nothing to speak of.

Most of the show deals with what I posted earlier.

Lol. You're right. Tulsa, the KKK, and white supremacy isn't about black trauma at all. And Hooded Justice' character arc was completely unbelievable.

Then you have your answer.

You are consumed by race and it's pathetic.

Whitewash Tulsa all you want. It's what the actual universe did anyway.

Lol. You're the one Stanning for a show obsessed with race. I'm the one saying that show sucks.

Lol. I didn't whitewash anything, dummy. Carry that baggage, it's what whitey Hollywood wants you to do.
