‘Watchmen’ Creator Alan Moore Disowned HBO’s ‘Watchmen’ Told Showrunner Never Contact Him

“It went on through a lot of, what seemed to me to be, neurotic rambling. ‘Can you at least tell us how to pronounce “Ozymandias”? I got back with a very abrupt and probably hostile reply telling him that I’d thought that Warner Bros. were aware that they, nor any of their employees, shouldn’t contact me again for any reason.”
Moore continued, “I explained that I had disowned the work in question, and partly that was because the film industry and the comics industry seemed to have created things that had nothing to do with my work, but which would be associated with it in the public mind. I said, ‘Look, this is embarrassing to me. I don’t want anything to do with you or your show. Please don’t bother me again.'”

this is what they think “Watchmen” was?’ They think that it was a dark, gritty, dystopian superhero franchise that was something to do with white supremacism,” Moore said. “Did they not understand ‘Watchmen’? ‘Watchmen’ was nearly 40 years ago and was relatively simple in comparison with a lot of my later work. What are the chances that they broadly understood anything since? This tends to make me feel less than fond of those works. They mean a bit less in my heart.”

I remember idiots on here going to the mat, defending this show as consistent with the comic.
Come eat your crow.

I never watched the show, but according to Alan Moore, the only person who understands his work is Alan Moore.

I mean the show was garbage but Alan Moore is the very definition of a curmudgeon. He’s a miserable frick that thinks none of his work should be adapted to TV or film.

He also thinks what DC has done with the property (in comic form) is horrible.

That would require integrity on the part of the woke-warriors that infest the site.
Won't happen.

Never understood his hatred for the movie, but he is right on the HBO show.

That show was a piece of fricking trash. It was essentially that hack Damon Lindelof’s cuckhold fantasy wrapped in a Watchmen aesthetic.
Oh and yeah they had a black guy kill Fred Trump in an episode. Whoop die fricking do.

“Well, you see, Alan, we love what you did with your original story, and want to capture that on film. However, we need to have it reflect the modern world we live in today. We’ve hired the best writers we could, again to reflect the modern world and support those that haven’t had their voices heard, which of course means our work will be an improvement on yours and be more authentic. I know we’ll have a hit on our hands.
Oh, by the way, how do you say “Ozymandias?””

I dug it, and thought it was a solid continuation.
Yes, white supremacy played a role, but the “big bad” was an ultra lib that just needed to be all powerful to impose will and make the world a utopia.
at giving a frick about Moore’s opinion on anything.

He also hates most of his own work as much as he hates adaptations of it.

IDGAF what Moore thinks.
He wrote a great graphic novel.
The movie missed the point of the novel.
The HBO series fricking nailed the novel's tone.
MUH WHITE SUPREMACY WOKE WOKE WENT BROKE cuckolds ITT.

You were bitching about Moore's opinions a week ago.
I haven't seen this show, but creators are often idiots about adaptations of their work. See King and The Shining.
