Watching the Wire for the first time - just finished Season 2

Holy shite this show is fantastic. How it took me this long to finally dive in baffles me.
Season 1 was incredible, but i think i actually enjoyed season 2 more. I hear season 3 goes a bit downhill but really picks up in 4.
Also, side note. I really love most of the cast. Bunk may be my favorite. I dont know why, but I absolutely HATE Bubbles. I hope he ODs or dies very soon.

Seasons 3 and 4 were the best.
You can skip 5. It didn't go downhill, it jumped off a cliff that season.

3 is good. They keep the drug story from season 1 going, but add in the politics. It is a strong season bc of the political angle.
4 is considered one of the best seasons of television, ever. I won't spoil the focus of season 4. But if I gave you a list of potential topics and had you rank them based on things you'd care about, it would fall at or near the bottom and it ends up being unbelievable.

Not sure what my deal is, but I could just not get into this show for some reason.
This board loves it so much I forced myself to all the way into season 3, but finally turned it off.

The worst season of the wire (5) is still better than 98% of the stuff on tv. Season 2 has always been my favorite season even though it is routinely ranked behind all but 5 by most people. Finishing up a sopranos rewatch and may start the wire again.

I will admit, I thought the second season was going to suck after the first episode. It’s just so different with a totally new cast, I found it hard to get into at first. Then once it picked up, holy shite, I couldn’t stop watching.

It's a good show, but I don't get the over the top praise for it and I absolutely love those kind of shows.

You did yourself a favor. I thought it was good. Not great. Season 5 is a dumpster fire. You literally have to force yourself to watch that season. I don't consider the Wire a top series. Maybe for its time I guess but to me it's meh.

Since getting HBO Max, I've rewatched Season 1 of The Wire and Season 1 of True Detective.
Some movies I watched for the first time are Blade Runner 2049, Joker, and Dunkirk.
Watched the two episodes of The Crime of the Century,
Have three episodes of Season 1 of Vice Principals left to watch, & four episodes of John Adams.
All were suggested by this board.

Season 5 is a complete shite fest. If you thought that was good tv, you'll watch anything. I don't. I use this board to find something to watch and I don't watch much. The Wire was well done at first but I had to force myself through it.
Banshee, as over the top as it was, is a better series from start to finish. Breaking Bad is better than the Wire. GOT is better than the wire even with the shitty ending.
I watch series to be entertained. The wire is a series I'll never watch again. It just wasn't that enjoyable for me.

I hate Bubbles as well.

I watched for the first time at beginning of covid. I think S2, at least for me, was frustrating at first because I wanted so bad to have more storylines from S1 continue. I didn’t want all these new characters I wanted it to build on the great foundation of s1. But I thought S2 was a really really good season. Once I was done I appreciated 2 more than when I was in it
