I don't remember which season it was, because it's been a long time since I watched the series. Whichever season it was where it was all the kids and school, is one of the best seasons of TV I've ever seen.

That's rare for a first timer - most of us get jarred by the sudden shift. Now, a percentage do like it as you did the first time, but I find that Season 2 gets better and better with each rewatch, while 1 3 and 4 are fairly even. 5 does get a little better, but fair warning - it is relatively unpopular with the broader base of Wire fans (except the finale - it did nail the landing, IMHO.)

Since getting HBO Max, I've rewatched Season 1 of The Wire and Season 1 of True Detective.

Some movies I watched for the first time are Blade Runner 2049, Joker, and Dunkirk.

Watched the two episodes of The Crime of the Century,

Have three episodes of Season 1 of Vice Principals left to watch, & four episodes of John Adams.

All were suggested by this board

When you are done with those, Chernobyl.

Does anyone ever actually do this? Watch 80% of a show and then just stop because some people didnt like the last season? If im through 4 seasons of a show that i like, much less a great show like The Wire, no chance im just gonna quit on the last season

MAJOR SPOILERS

Knowing what I know about the wire, yes. That tv series didn't constantly run together. Each season was like its own story. But season 5 is not even close to any of the others. It's flat out boring and not even worth finishing.

Put it this way. Once Omar died the show was done. The Wire should not be considered best series ever. Far from it. The only people saying that are the ones that watched it every week when it was new.

I don't watch enough TV, and I realize everyone has different taste but nobody on this board considers Banshee a shite series or hard to get through. The Wire is tough to get through. Maybe that's why they called it the wire.

And miss out on Scott Templeton? I often have debates with myself about who's worse - him or Delonda.

SPOILERS for the OP

So the third to last episode of the show? And yes, each season had its own angle, but they all tied together.

I finished it about 6 months ago. It’s in my top 3 shows, so that statement is wrong.

No, but I watched the first six episodes of Showtime's NOLA program "Your Honor", and never watched the last three. Just too many stupid moves made by Brian Cranston's character to keep watching. Way too weak a character for me to care what happens to him and his son.

I watched it for the first time about ten years ago and loved it. I have it as my #1.

While I agree that S5 is by far the weakest of the series, it’s still good television. Just a couple of the plot points get a little ridiculous. But it still manages to carry forward plots for a ton of the characters and like someone said it absolutely nails the finale. The finale alone makes S5 worth it IMO. But besides the finale, it’s still enjoyable to watch for most of the characters.

I rank the seasons 1, 4, 3, 2, 5. Season 4 is incredible.

Same. Gave up during season 3. I'll never understand why this show gets so much hype. It's a standard cop show, imo.

I'm not a fan of the genre, so I don't know. But is it really all that much better than cop shows that were also heavily praised...like Hill Street Blues, NYPD Blue, Law and Order, etc?

You sound like a Ric and Morty fan with that low IQ bullshite. Try harder. I bet you think that liking the show says something about your IQ. It doesn't.

Won’t argue over someone liking or not liking a show. People like different stuff. But the Wire isn’t close to being one of those standard cop shows

You laugh but if we comparing 4 seasons of TV for entertainment, it's a complete no brainer.

The Wire didn't suck but if I had never watched it, I still wouldn't feel like I missed out on something great. I found the story to be entertaining at times but it really took me twice to get started on it.

The first season was hard at first but once it finished I was looking for more and then season 2 takes a different direction and I was like ok this was ok, then season 3 was decent, 4 was good, but the only reason I forced myself to watch season 5 was because I wanted to see more Omar. That season was a complete pile of shite.

I hoped Bubbles would die every episode. Couldn't stand his character. Wasn't the worst show but i guess I don't know what good TV is.
