I was there in the stands for the day game they filmed at halftime.

I was in the student section and it was a great atmosphere. They ran the same play several times and the crowd cheered like crazy each time. I think Jeff Wickersham was the QB.

I knew a guy who was a student and got a small part in the movie. There’s a scene where Quaid opens a dorm room door and a bunch of underclassmen are listening through the door. He was one of those guys.

Scenes were shot at halftime and after. One “player” kept jumping early, and the crowd kept giving him hell for it.

They had us chanting “get that ball”….for the scene where Quaid times the snap as causes a fumble. By about the third or fourth take, we changed the chant to “get it right, get it right”

Was a Freshman at the time of filming and pledged a front row house which they ended up filming the party scene at. I was an extra. Day before shooting, they sent us to a warehouse off Essen to get fitted for our costumes (basically khakis, button down and old school saddle oxfords). Lots of my fraternity brothers are in the party scenes. I ended up on the cutting room floor. We filmed all night. Quaid was a complete coked up jackass just like his reputation. Hutton was really cool. Played pick up games with us between set ups. Goodman was cool and approachable. Sat around and shot the shite with us. Lange was nice and very beautiful but stayed in her trailer most of the time. Few of the boys got a little rowdy and were asked to leave. Overall, it was a cool experience.

Quaid separated his shoulder on the scene where he gets hit on the sidelines in the Bronco's uniform. That is why there is a true look of confusion and pain on his face.

It was Patricia Clarkson's first or second movie (she's from NOLA). Lange was still pretty hot back then.

The scene at the beginning of the movie with the GBFTL marching down the Capitol steps still gives me a stiffy.

I was at the game they filmed at halftime and LSU baseball player at the time Mike Papajohn launched his career from that movie playing one of the football players.

I went to high school with one of the minor characters in the film.

Thankfully it was filmed before the STTDB chant was in place.

some of the football scenes they filmed the Bronco the shot at Memorial Stadium in baton rouge
the film paid to enclose the memorial stadium end zone for the shoot

when they originally shot the capitol steps parade scene it snowed that night in baton rouge. The GBFTL got brand new uniforms for the parade scene they shot

Jessica Lange famously hated the movie, she thought it should have been about her character and Babs relationship with Gavin Grey

Jessica Lange said she wasted her time filming "Everybody's All-American" and that the Director threw the whole film out the window.

Don't know what type of film she was expecting, never read the book.

The last line in Ebert's review lends a clue: "“Everybody’s All-American” is a good idea and well-acted, but the screenplay is so unfocused we never even really know if the movie is about the Ghost, or Babs."

I guess she wanted it to be about Babs.

she did
in the book Gavin tries to kill Babs and kills himself
EAA took a much lighter approach to the ending

I enjoyed the film in the 80s. Of course, my age at the time, wish it had more football/college life, etc....no one particularly wants to watch the other part of the film....the depressing faded glory days

I felt Babs had an incredibly deep character arc and a ton of growth - seemed well done to me at least the way she was developed….

I’m sure a ton of Sorority Queens deal with a similar reality in their late 20’s and 30’s….

I feel this film aged quite well… likely better received today then it would have been at release…

Yes, it was. I spoke with him about it when the movie came out and he said it definitely was, and they had to change a LOT of things in the movie to make it less obvious it was about him. Legal maneuvering I guess.

Like others said they filmed the party scene at the Theta Xi house, we were having a fraternity party next door which was disrupted with all the lighting and old cars lined upon the street. They end up giving us a few hundred bucks. We sat on our roof next door watching them film.

I remember being at that game and the part where Gavin thinks the cheering is for him and it was just for the team coming back out on the field. I thought someone had screwed something up.

I thought it was a good movie. Quaid was dating Meg Ryan at the time.
