I quite liked it. Of course, I'm a grown-arse man and not a giant man-baby, so seeing female leads doesn't bother me. Nor does it bother me when characters in a movie don't have views that line up 100 percent with my beliefs. And I liked how Rian Johnson kind of gleefully destroyed some of tropes of Star Wars. It's not the Bible. They gave him the keys to the franchise, he can do what he wants.
Phantom Menace was the worst movie ever made. At least there was something going on with this.

I just got out and holy shite, THAT was the movie grown arse men on this board are literally melting about? I was watching it waiting for it to live up to its "worst garbage ever filmed" billing and never once thought it. Was waiting to be bombared with "SJW bullshite" and never saw it. Good Lord, a black guy (a main character from the previous movie nonetheless) and an Asian girl?? And that's what a bunch mouthbreathers on here are crying about?

Don't get me wrong, it isn't the best Star Wars movie by any means. But I was expecting Baby Geniuses in Space from reading this board. It was entertaining. It seemed like a normal Star Wars movie. And the funny thing, I don't think the melt will stop anytime soon. And people say the Soccer Board is the most embarrassing board on TD

But but muh nostalgia, muh empire strikes back

I mean without the tropes what makes Star Wars any different than any other sci fi?

And what "tropes" did he really destroy?

Such a cop-out and untrue statement. I haven't heard a single person here since the release of the film dissing Rey as a character. Her and Kylo Ren are the parts we all like, and it's not very controversial.

Lady Bird is probably in my Top 5 films for the year, and it's values are radically different than my own. Just make something competent and good rather than talk down to your audience. It's just the condescending message of this shite. I can't believe they shelled out $70 million dollars for rich guys to lecture us how evil rich people and weapon sellers are.

PM I can at least put in the shredder since nothing important happens in the movie. The fact that this movie had something going for it (The Rey/Kylo stuff) makes it all the more infuriating. It's just buried under a giant mountain of garbage. The film so lazily dismisses everything to do with TFA that Rian even failed to give 3P0 his red arm.

Exactly my thoughts. Although I rank this the lowest of the 3 new films so far. Let’s hope it doesn’t get much worse.

I liked it not as much Star Wars or Empire, but I’ll never be 10 years old sitting in the theatre again like I was then. As good as Force Awakens for me.

It looked and felt like Star Wars. Special effects and sound were amazing. Story was good.

But since some people are fishing for Rey criticisms so they can prove how much more enlightened they are or something, I'll provide one.

It made no sense not to have Kylo Ren completely kick her arse in the throne room fight, especially if you're presumably setting him up to be Chief Badass in Episode IX.

There's nothing really wrong with the film itself that's bad enough to make it not worth seeing, but if you are a fan of the Star Wars universe, there are some creative decisions made that are certainly questionable.

But according to everybody, that was because of the crossbow wound.

Plus, from a narrative standpoint, where are the stakes for Rey and the Resistance in Episode IX if she is already more powerful than he is.

I guess Leia was right when she said "We already have what we need" at the end. Rey kicking everybody's arse all next movie and 15 Resistance members watching the show.

“Everybody” meaning the internet?

The story is and has always been bigger than just two force users. Right now I see the stakes as how this resistance will rebuild itself and how Rey can turn Ren. She’s not only trying to kill him. Otherwise she would’ve done so and not mentioned the conflict in him to Luke

Yeah, and he doesn’t get that benefit of the doubt now. If you were to ask me before walking in that theater if Kylo Ren would defeat Rey this time, I’d say so with absolute certainty. He should have, but now Kylo Ren isn’t all that intimidating.

why are the fans so rustled?

Because they made Ep 7, and then made the next movie as if Ep 7 never existed. One crtic said it was the least essential SW movie made. You could skip it, and not miss a thing when watching Ep IX

subplot about Rey and her parents
Snokes back story
Kylos fascination with Vader
The urgency to find Luke
Kylo killing, but not killing his parentage
And blowing up a death planet, doesn't really kill anyone (except Han, but he was already dead, so . . . .)

Its like, "Oh that other movie. Yeah, forget all that. That was just A New Hope reboot. This is the movie we really wanted to do"

It would be like in the 2nd Matrix we find out Agent Smith was a pushover, and NEO wasn't really the One. Trinity was the One all along

I actually laughed my arse off.

Go ahead, check my post history if you think I’m a loony liberal. I guess when I go to a movie I’m just not looking for politics, so I don’t find it.

People built up in their heads that Luke would be some Jedi God when he turned 60 when in reality he was pretty much always a bitch.

I hoped he’d come back and wreck shite but it didn’t outrage me that he didn’t.

More disappointing to me is that we never got a post-ROTJ movie depicting Luke has a skilled Jedi at the height of his power. We went from youthful and raw to Old and crotchety. Just a missed opportunity. I feel the same way about the Wolverine movies.
