No. He was fine. Sinners was ok. Not an oscar worthy movie in any way really.

I saw all the movies. If you're looking at who was the best actor based on performance, it was probably Wagner Moura.

You can probably ask this for about 75% of the Oscars that have been handed out in the past 30-40 years.

Same reason it won the best original screenplay despite being basically a ripoff of From Dusk till Dawn.

No you dont, but we know why you didnt want him to win

I thought he played both parts well. He wasn't undeserving, but I'm sure people will argue about it.

He was definitely worthy of it, people can debate if his should've been the winner or not. The way he was able to play the twins (triplets if you want to count Stacks switch to vampirism) and able to differentiate them that dramatically in the subtleties impressed me. I.e. if you didn't know MBJ before this and were told it was twins acting the characters, you wouldn't second guess it.

I thought MBJ did a good job, but not Oscar worthy. Did he win it for his role as Smoke, or Stack? It feels like cheating to combine them when everyone else was considered for one role. Any actor can play two different parts.
I agree that plenty of actors can play two different roles, but I do think MBJ did an excellent job of making these twins feel like they were clearly connected yet still completely distinct people.

no has has done it quite as well as JCVD in Double Impact though, and HE didnt win an award

IMO he was definitely worthy of it in a category with no clear frontrunner. Certainly not a case where the award was "stolen" from another nominee who was heads and shoulders above everyone else.
The apparent consensus was that this was Timothee Chalamet's year having been nominated several previous times. However, it appears the voters got tired of his constant campaigning and entitled attitude, while MBJ is generally seen as being one of the more down to earth and respected actors around.

Jesse Plemons is the one that should've been nominated.
Should have been nominated and won. That film got snubbed for some reason.

Martin Landau won for playing Bela Lugosi. That's close.
And he shouldn't have won. He won because of makeup just like Kidman won for a freaking fake nose.
Shows how times have changed. Landau wouldn't win today. That would have gone to Samuel L Jackson. Jackson should have won back then over Landau.

I know he was good in Creed.
That was my first time seeing him and I thought other than lifting weights and learning to box a smidge he sucked, and I still think he can't act. Hollywood trying to make him the next Denzel is frickin perfect. He has no charisma and very little talent but Hollywood is collectively jacking off and bean flicking over giving him a DEI Oscar
Posted on 3/16/26 at 3:22 pm to baybeefeetz
Did you see Creed? It was like that performance but twice in one movie.

I liked Sinners plenty just like I thought Black Panther was good. But nominations outside of score or best song, costume design etc is a farce.
Black panther was garbage.

He did great in the roles he played but they weren't the roles that typically get the best actor nod. He didn't really stretch or go to some unknown depth like someone like DDL.
Absolutely nothing wrong with his performance, but it wasn't something that blew me away and made me take note.
It was just really good

Tom Hardy didn't get nominated for Legend and his portrayal of Twins was objectively better that Jordan's.
